I have just went back to Direct TV from cable.
I have a 37 inch polaroid lcd hd tv
the installer mounted a 3 lnb slimline dish on my house
He also installed a R22NC dvr inside
Now my 37 inch tv has a 24 inch picture
It has gray bars on both sides of the screen
How can I get this fixed?
How can I get my direct remote to work with my tv? none of the codes work.
I also got a 3 lnb dish to take camping with me
and a second receiver
Any ideas on aiming this dish to receive all channels?
I know I am asking a lot of questions but I cant get any answers from direct tv.
Thanks Paul

I'll try a few of these.
The TV is diplaying a 4:3 resolution picture in the middle of the TV, thus the bars on the sides. You'll need to check the format settings out of the R22 and those on the TV. How do you have the R22 connected to the TV?

The receiver has the aiming values built in. Or go to dishpointer.com and enter the lat/long of your camping site for the alignment settings.

As for controlling the TV with the remote, that's a problem with newer TVs. You should invest in a universal remote.

Thanks for the responce
we have tried all the aspect settings on the tv with no change
it is wired with the component rca cords ,green blue and red
The installer said the receiver R22NC offers no settings for this
Direct tv is sending me an HD dvr. They said this would fix that problem
as far as the 3 lnb dish and aming while camping, Will it bring in more channels than my old single lnb round dish?
I'll have to find a universal remote I guess

Thanks Paul

What is the make & model of this TV?

What channels do this pillar-boxing effect? Some would and should do this (as well as letter-boxing).

Some channels that do pillar-box, window-box and letter-box; CAN'T be changed via the format button.

The Slimline dish is a 5 LNB dish, not a 3 LNB dish; are you sure you have a Slimeline dish?

its a polaroid 37 inch hd lcd
it affects all chanels
it is a slimline dish and it has 3 lnb's on it
it looks like you could add 2 more

The slimline has 5 LNB however 3 are under one cover/hood.

So when you watch a prime-time show or live sporting even in 16:9 HD you still get the pillar-box?

The R22 is not HD capable right?

Is the DirecTV receiver setup in the menu for a 4:3 or 16:9 display?

What resolution is it setup for?

Is native on or off?

I guess its the updated SD DVR. Wonder why it has component outs? What's the point?

It is the HR series with the HD stuff turned off If I am not mistaken. He SHOULD be able to make the adjustments with it. Unless thats also a feature thats turned off, which wouldnt make sense to me at all

Just a guess, but to me if the HD is "off" any res or display setting would likely be off as well. This is only a best guess.

so do you agree that the hd dvr they send me will fix this problem?
it should be here today or tomorrow
thanks Paul

Well the new HD receiver they installed worked and fixed the problem
Thanks for all the help
