I took that to mean class D switching power supplies, aka digital power supplies, like the ones in PCs. A lot more current out for a lot less mass and size compared to the garden variety wal-wart.
 
Yes, the USB spec says a proper hub must be able to supply 500ma to each port.
So, for a four port hub, you need 2 amps.

Some ship with heavy transformer-based supplies, but some have little light weight switchers.
If you have your own hub without power supply, there's often an input connector for the "optional" power supply.
Use it as you see fit. :)
 
I only have the one receiver, so I used a single 12 volt 3" fan from an old PC power supply, powered by an old 3.8 100ma Nokia cell phone wall wart. Fan is Velcro'd to the top of the case and runs slow and quiet, and the Pansat 9200HD case is cold to the touch now. A free solution. Would expect the fan to last a long time, when's the last time your PC's fan went out?
