I have two Samsung 42" 720s. My wife watches one of them nearly all day. Still has a GREAT picture!

I never had a Plasma, is it true they give off heat, enough to help keep a room warm?

Actually, that heat and overall inefficiency doomed it. They couldn't meet new CA TV efficiency standards.

Some of the early models consumed as much as 400 watts. That power turned mostly into heat.

A 42" plasma consumes around 220W depending on vintage.

Around Christmas time, I retired my Last Pioneer Elite Plasma, it still worked great, just replaced it with a Sony A90

My TH-42PX75U Panasonic (2012) is still healthy. Yah about 400 watts power use.
Its in the basement and used rarely. Still I'm not giving it up. Only 720p but a great picture and real sound.

Still have a Samsung 58 as my main TV. Think I got in 2011. My KEF on wall surround speakers are more or less permanent objects around it so the TV will stay until it absolutely has to be replaced. With the thinner bezels now I can probably fit a 65 in it's place, it's just not that serious.
