He really needs to cut back to a 1 hour show 4x a week. Talk about current topics, toss a couple comedy bits in and be done with it. A day a week could be an interview.

I suspicion (yes, that is a correct use of the word) that SXM has spent the bucks to determine the likely cost benefit ratio of keeping him or no. I suspect a future release saying they could not reach an agreement.

The problem is, how many subscribers hold on to Sirius because of Howard.

If they do not renew the contract or he retired, how many will then drop Sirius and use/go to those alternatives?

While I still listen every once in a while, not a big deal since he has more days off then days working, not a must anymore.

Dude is 71 next month, sooner or later, he will want to retire, I just retired for the 5th time a few months ago, I am only 57, after these last few months, have not plans on going back to work this time.
I don't think he means much to SiriusXM anymore, after all his show is now included in the cheapest Music only package. Everyone now gets Howard no matter if they want him or not.

I think he is out on vacation now more then he is in for a show. And I think he has only been in the studio a handful of times this year, instead doing shows from his basement. For the most part he has been phoning it in and not the same Howard Stern most have come to know and love.

I think he will stop doing his live show and perhaps do specials instead. He is not worth the money he once was.

SXM should save some money and can his ass as he hasn't been relevant for a while now!!!
Sure...

But it's estimated that he has about 10 million active listeners, a couple million of whom come in and out of the show sporadically. Even though SiriusXM has hundreds of channels of entertainment, there's no doubt that Howard Stern is their main draw.

Seems pretty relevant to me

That's what I'm thinking. Just read an article about them cutting costs on the streaming development as they've realized they can't catch Apple and Spotify on the streaming platform.
Then they approach it wrong. I don't know about Apple, but Spotify isn't the live-streaming platform that SXM is. SXM could benefit more by cutting low-performing stations. Like, sports. I'm not sure many people use SXM for live sports

I think live sports is a big draw.

Live Sports are not a big draw, that is a myth, just like RSNs receive great ratings.

The extremely vast majority of our population do not watch or listen to Live Sports, for example, RSN get about 1-3% of the audience in their areas during the MLB season, worse during NHL/NBA games.

ESPN is lucky to crack 1% during MLB, NBA, NHL regular season games, the NHL games get hundreds of thousands of, not even a million watching, during their games on ESPN.
