3D is not universal viewing, it is intended for special programming. I have as much desire to have 3D viewing as I do a DBOX system in my home theater. Both cost about the same these days. However, 3D today, has no program source library. While this is soon to change, we're not there yet.
Given the choice between spending money today on DBOX or 3D, I'd choose DBOX because it has a wide variety of program sources. Put 3D on next years budget when we have programming.
I realize that DirecTV and Dish Network are planning to have 3D channels, but let's wait for the real reviews on these before we pull the trigger. Remember the first HDTV channels on HBO? We looked forward to that one new HD movie per month as the others were just upconverts. It took years before HD was ubiquitous. Will 3D be ubiquitous in 8 years? I doubt it at least no more than DBOX is today.
