Kicked direct pizza down to the smallest package Family today for year two. $36.00 savings a month :D FEELS GOOD!

Congratulations, I think...are there any channels in that package that you actually like? I would hate to send a check of pure profit each month to someone I hated so much. Hardly any of the channels in the Family Package actually cost Directv a dime.

Very true. At least it has the Scripps channels and the Weather Channel. Judging from all of the outages reported, I doubt tvropro gets to actually watch his system anyways.

Hahaha.. So True.. I don't think that he could watch tv on Direct lately if he wanted to. It sounds like Chicago has had some pretty bad rains.. Our local radio newcast this morning even mentioned the Chicago rain this morning.

Here's a freaky thing last night we had storms that came in from almost due south vs SW like normal. I actually was very lucky because my local area fell between the severe stuff. It was bad about 10 miles away from me. Anyway Direct held up with signals in the 70's on my 90cm. That proves my theory that part of my problem here is because the storms 99% of the time come in from the SW and kill it.

A question for Iceberg. next time you get some good boomers moving in by you let me know what direction they come from. I will bet that they do not cross the path directly in line with the satellites for Direct and they are off axis even by a few degree's. That can make the difference between tv and no tv except on the bud that is :)

yesterday we had some real bad rain...torrential downpours. Came from the south which is very close to where the sats are here in Minneapolis. I didnt lose HD until it really started pouring (like oh hell run for your lives)...SD stayed up the whole time. In 10 minutes it was gone (the storm....signal on SD never dropped...HD was back in less than a minute)

Most of the time our storms come from the SW or W

Here is a thought....try a 18" dish or phase III dish and see what happens.

The family package has some good channels in it really. I'm not a sports nut or reality tv nut. I like good tv that is interesting or clean funny shows. I like the old shows a lot. Boomerang is kinda cool since it shows cartoons I grew up with.

I'm not interested in ESPN, all the one sided views of the news garbage, business garbage, or trash that is on 95% of the channels. I like music too thats where H2H really blows the doors in on Direct.

But then I'm different from most I guess. I love my Bud and fight for it daily :)

Forget an 18" been there done that and the Slimline same game. I have a phase 3 in stock but doubt it will help. My friend VP at Vincor says commercial installs using 1.2 's die here. Im in a bad area. Look at this web page I made and the pictures it explains a lot that happens here: DirecTV | Dish Network | Rain Fade The Truth.

Ice Looks like most of your storms come in off axis. Thats why you stay up.

Well, if we can't get sports packages on DC2 anymore I'm going to sub to DTV next fall and get an NHL package. I really hate to spend the money (not to mention the 2 year contract) but if I really want to see the NHL again.......

Of course, there might be some NHL stuff on FTA but......

I checked it out...and sadly I had to laugh. I'm sorry but I had to. So much misinformation...or should I say "opinions"
The 99% uptime is a lie.
seriously if you take how many minutes in a day/month/year and how many minutes you are "out" the 99% is true. Its probably higher ;)
You will loose HD and SD both.
its LOSE, not LOOSE (my pants are loose because I lost weight...I lose money at the casino)
and HD might go out but SD can stay up. (as I posted above)
A properly peaked dish will still go out.
as can any KU dish
Outages can last from a few minutes to hours.
Unless you have a monsoon hours is inaccurate. If I have any rain fade its a minute or two...if its longer than 5 minutes then I better get in the basement. Oh wait I did LOSE signal for a couple hours last winter when we had concrete snow on the dish and blocking the LNB. Wiped it off and back in business

and I'm not a Directv "homer"...just stating what I have seen here on the board and with my setup

Ice you are welcome to move to my area and experience the extended downtime I and people in my area experience. You won't believe me unless you had to deal with it yourself. Thats the ONLY way you will ever believe it. I have nothing to hide it's based on first hand experience. Feel free to get a summer place here and see for yourself. RTN on 123 ku gave me the same crap. H2H ku and Shaw when I used a bigger dish for Shaw faired much better.

Directv dropped out on mom's tv for 10-12 minutes yesterday from storms. HD went off first then SD. Glad i have an OTA antenna and bud!!

My sister looses her direct pizza service during solar storms!

When her service goes out (often) on nice days and she calls up,

they tell her it is due to solar storms!

We totally kicked DTV out almost to the day, a year ago, we ain't looking back. Getting ready to install another dish and a MOTO 410 within the month, got 2 AZBOX's now. No more pizza or CHARLIE here

When I got home from work I turned on Dish Network to see what's on the HBO free weekend preview only to see a message saying that the satellite signal has been lost. :) I then turned on my C band FTA system and the signal was perfect.

and read a few of the responses....its normal for Directv to once in a while try and get you to buy a movie channel package. Whats the worse thing that happens...you say no and hang up? ;)

I have no problem with them trying to sell a movie pack. But whats this were giving you it free BS and then twist it around and say it will cost you this. Then the kicker part was they said were signing you up and thats it you have no say so. Until I attacked the guy and shut him down. The tactics used were totally untenable.
