I've only been a Dish customer for a few years, but I've been in the software/hardware business for more almost 15 years. I've seen 'future product' announcements come and go. The one thing I've learned is to not get too excited about vaporware. As far as I can tell, that's what this new receiver is. Sure, they might've built a demo box or two, but until it's actually shipping, it doesn't exist.
Trolling these boards for a while, I've also learned that the phrase 'soon' is almost always stated after the words "Dish is coming out with ----". That tells me this is a company that, unfortunately, likes to announce products or services, weather channel anyone?, then not follow through with the actual implementation; they just say things to appease the crowd. In this way, Dish is no different than many other companies (RIM).
So while these discussion on new products, costs, fees, etc, are fun to have, I'm not trusting any new announcements until I see some follow-through. I was very excited about the 922 when it was announced, then followed the boards where people complained about paying premium costs for a sub-par machine that didn't do what it was originally announced to do.
