Hi everyone. I'm new to FTA. I'm equiped and ready to go. I have a 30" starchoice dish and linear LNB and a VS Plat receiver but I have one question before I start to search for G18. Should the LNB be slid in towards the dish or away from the dish in the holder? I assume the wrong placement would effect signal strength/quality since the focal point would be off a bit.

Welcome to SatGuys, donnmac!

I have heard that you should slide the LNBF as far from the dish as is possible in your holder, to start with. :)

Welcome!

Once you have the dish mounted and your elevation set and you're looking for your first sat, you should be close enough to find it. When you're fine tuning, move the lnb in/out and adjust your skew (rotation) for best signal Q.

I agree, here. On all 3 of my Primestar dishes, the new lnbf's performed the best, slid as far back in the holder (away from the dish) as they would go. Oh...and:welcometo SatelliteGuys!:D

but unfortunatelly putting it all the way back may not be the best...I've seen it closer to the dish work better

trial and error works the best :)

Thanks

Thanks everyone for your help. I've found 121...123 is next. My biggest hurdle will be maximizing quality because of my geographic location (extreme north east). Sat is quite low in the sky.
