I saw how a event was sent to heaven with a bud pointing to south, the device had DVB written, the monitor attached showed actual transmission...

Can I go home and seek that signal in my pansat?

I know its must be a feed, think thats no illegal to look that public event if its not encrypted... thats truth?

What you saw was more than likely a backhaul truck that was sending the signal back to a station somewhere to be broadcast via satellite. When you do a blindscan, what you are doing is picking up those transmissions. Thats why when the event is over, the 'channel' you were watching goes blank ..... the truck quit sending the signal and went home ;)

the bird

I guess...for the position of bud (azimuth, elevation) can deduct to which bird are they sending the signal, I think people with experience can say the bird name only looking the bud.

Here stu* questions...
Will the bird always be one of "the list!"?
Can I deduct if the signal goes to ku or c-band?

Thanks....

For transmitting to the satellite (uplinking) they use a lot larger dish than what we use for reception.
That makes sure the uplink truck only aims its signal to the one bird.
So, based on what I've seen, they carry dishes in the 6' to possibly 8' range, mounted directly on the truck.
And they operate on Ku band.

edit:
This picture is one I posted some time ago. It's a 6' Prodelin Ku dish with a transmitter.
It's not on an uplink truck, this is a remote telemetry system out in the field.
The dish is it's internet connection, so to speak. ;)
But, the theory is the same.

2nd Edit:
The guy who started this thread is a real uplink truck driver.
See representative picture in his first post.

If you have a compass, you can approximate the position of the satellite the truck is uplinking to, then go home and scan the satellites in that area of the sky. The problem is, unless the event lasts for a long time, the signal will likely be gone by the time you get to scan it.

Sometimes, the guys in the sat truck will tell you what bird they're uplinking to (and sometimes even the frequency and symbol rate)... I know an engineer at a local network affiliate who keeps his trusty Traxis 3500 on his desk at work so he can blind scan the station's sat truck feeds when the truck fails to notify engineering of the correct transponder frequency and SR data :)

If you remember the station, or the company , call them up and speak with a tech. They'll generally tell you which birds they use. I talked to one our Grand Rapids WOODTV guys at his truck one day, they use AMC5 , when they need an uplink. At the time, though, they were using microwave to get their feed back to the station. I imagine it's cheaper than paying for satellite time in a short range shot.
