Major Upgrade Saturday October 16th.

For over 7 years now SatelliteGuys.US has been your Satellite Information Source! I am excited to announce that on Saturday October 16th SatelliteGuys will be moving to the vBulletin 4.0 platform.

This move is necessary to not only to properly keep your data secure, but this move will also bring us current in the vBulletin system for support. The new software will allow us to expand in the future including changing to a new more robust search engine.

The new software will also have a new exciting look, one that we feel is modern, clean and easy on the eyes! The old styles are not compatible with the new software and will not be available, however we will have a new PDA mode plus we will still support popular smart phone applications such as Tapatalk, Forum Runner, and our acclaimed SatelliteGuys iPhone App! (Just a note... hopefully our SatelliteGuys App will be available for the Android Platform soon! I know they are working hard on it!)

Some things to note...

A besides the old looks going away a number of features will also be removed. The Casino / Game Room will close for lack of use. The Photo Gallery software will be closed to new photo additions. (we are looking at some alternate photo gallery ideas.)

The XBOX Live Gamer Cards and Folding@HOME banners in members signatures will no longer work. I am trying to figure out a way for our members to show off these things in their user profiles instead.

Other features including our popular SatCity Arcade will remain.

The site will be unavailable for a few hours on Saturday the 16th as we install the upgrade and make the necessary changes. It should be noted when we reopen not all features will be there or functional, but be assured I plan on working through the weekend getting things fully going.

I know some folks don't like change, but be assured I am working to make everyone feel at home with the new software and new look and am excited by moving us forward with the latest software from vBulletin.

Another site I frequent now, since AVS is a nuisance most of the time, is on 4.06. They've had problems over the last few months, but it's cool SW, just buggy in the beginning.

Ditto! Hopefully, the SatelliteGuys android app will be launched in conjunction with the new site. Regardless, it's the people who make this site such a wonderful experience.

The updated site uses vB4.0. If you have visited some other forums using the vBulletin 4.0x software, you'll have an idea what the general look will be like.

Just a reminder this MAJOR upgrade is taking place TOMORROW! SatelliteGuys will be down for a few hours as we perform the upgrade!

Because I have to work on Wednesdays... bad enough I need to go into work on a Saturday and do this (since that where all my upgrade stuff it)

It will only be down a few hours tops... and I am going to try getting in as early as possible so we should be back up in time for Football.
