Can you post pictures of your Dish 500 dish in Cancun? I don't beleive you.

Kind of challenging in tone, no? It's a 1.1 meter dish, probably DirectTV surplus. Note the screen shot of the Pointing Screen. It says Dish 500. Sorry for the cell phone pix.

BTW, why don't you believe me?

Please do not flame me if my questions is stupid. Assuming you got signal , can U get dishnetwork programming with your regular receiver from Nimiq 5 72.7 W ?

(a sore expat living in the Bay Islands)

As long as you can get the signal and have a VIP receiver(MPEG4) you can use 72.7.

What dish would I need for E7 in Costa Rica?

Most (if not all) transponders have been switched off E7, I'd say start looking into switching from 119 to 72.7 if you have MPEG4 capable equipment. With a 2.4 meter dish, you'll be looking at signals from 20s to mid 40s and you'll be able to pull the HD channels mirrored there from 110 which you can marginally pull with a 3.8 meter dish.

It's probably your reference to using a Dish 500. That setup utilizes a much smaller dish. Your receiver is just interpreting your setup as Dish 500. The receivers don’t always know how to label our MX setups, but they do the best they can.

Many of us are upset in Mexico due to our loss of TV. Consider yourself lucky. Cancun appears to have made the cutoff.

Since I'm out of my depth here, can you tell me the dish type I have by the picture. It's about 1.1 meters in diameter.

I don’t think DISH has a marketing name for your setup.

I would just say that you have a 1.1 meter dish pointed at 119. If you can provide some additional info about the dish you could throw that in. Does it have a name on it? If not, and you bough it locally, it was probably made locally. That can be useful information to add in there as well.
Also, if you can identify your LNB you could add that. It should have a name on it.

I have a 2.4 metre dish here in Costa Rica. Would I get the locals on 72.7 also? I am still getting TP 2, 6, 10, 11, 15,19 right now. Is this from E7 or E14?

E14. I don't remember seeing any locals on 72.7. Check DishChannelChart.com or TheList link in my signature.

thats not a Dish500. The settings in the receiver just say that. When I had to set up a 322 for my dad to replace a 311 I set it up at my house temporarily and I used my 4 foot dish (because it was the closest dish I had handy) here in Minnesota (where a D500 is all we need) and it still showed Dish500 in the settings even though I was aimed just at 119 too

Thanks, Iceberg. As I said, this isn't my area of expertise. I took a closer look at the dish from a neighbor's house (getting on to my roof involves 3 very long ladder climbs). There is a faded DirectTV logo on the dish, so I assume it's an old DirectTV 1.1 meter dish with a Dish Network compatible LNB. I couldn't see any markings on the LNB. Obviously, setups here in Mexico, especially 5 years ago when this was installed, can be a bit improvisational.

Is there a clear idea of when the move to E*14 will be completed? I'm noticing little changes every day. Yesterday TP 13 (Speed Channel #150) was solid as a rock and available at 6 AM when in the past it didn't wobble above the horizon until about 8:15. Today it was available at 6 AM again, but later in the day the signal is deteriorating, with blocking and pixillation issues. I'm wondering if after this is all finished, it would be wise for me to do a bit of tweaking to the dish.

I am in Puerto Escondido Oaxaca using a 1.2 m (48"x 54") dish pointed at 119. I have lost all transponders except for the following tp's followed by signal strength
2-20
12-14
16-13
20-12
21-12
the only stations I am curently getting are the N.Y. locals. When will these changes to 119 be complete and will fine tuning the dish help with the lost tp's or will a larger dish be needed?

Zihuatanejo signal (new report)

Hi all, Zihuatanejo here again with latest signal report.

I tweaked my 1.8 dish this morning with the following:

Trans /signal
1 0
2 60 (thought this was a spot beam?)
3 0
4 0
5 0
6 0
7 0
8 30
9 23
10 0
11 0
12 43
13 29
14 0
15 0
16 41
17 32
18 0
19 0
20 41
21 42

Can someone explain why with the above reasonable signals that I cannot get even a blip on 11,15, and 19? 15 was my NY and SF network feeds from all channel direct. I see on other posts here they are getting 15.

Thanks

el hombre

maybe you need to just adjust you dish a little bit im in mexico city and im getting tp 15 good

See the Zihuatanejo post above. Am using a 1.8 dish and have just tuned it again. Tried both extreme left and right of signal path. No, nada, nothing on 11,15,19 tps.

We live in Melaque (North of Manzanillo). We still get some of the channels, including HBO and Showtime.

TP 6, 8, 10, 11, 14, 18, 19 and 21 are gone.
We are waiting until mid-June to make a decision to either ditch Dishnet or buy a larger antenna (currently using a 1.2 m). In the meantime, we have Shaw as a back up, but their Motorola DVR is a piece of crap compared to the Dishnet DVR w have now.

You mean HD locals? you can get some CONUS on 77

Where in Costa Rica are you located? These are the TPs I'm getting in Cartago

02 - 34 (E7?)
06 - 62 (E14)
10 - 52 (E14)
11 - 48 (E14)
14 - 51 (E14)
15 - 57 (E14)
18 - 58 (E14)
19 - 57 (E14)
