With Mauer (Twins) out most of the year, Alex Avilla (Tigers) should be the Starter, but won't be. :what:no...

Miguel Cabrera (Tigers) should also make the team as a back up to Adrian Gonzalas (Red Sox), may make it .... Cabrera's back to hitting about .330. Texeria was leading the polls earlier, while hitting .247.

NY's population will see to that.

I don't know who will win, I just picked NL because I am an NL guy. I do know that it should not matter and should go back to being a fun exhibition game. It is a popularity contest and does not always represent the best players in the first half. For example, Matt Kemp SHOULD be leading all outfielders in votes. There is not a single outfielder, let alone any other position, that is putting up better numbers than him. And he is doing this without anybody in the top of the lineup getting on base before him

#2 in BA (was leading the league for a while)
#1 in HR
#4 in SB
#6 in BB
#3 in OBP
#1 in SLG
#2 in OPS
#3 in RBI
#8 in Runs (the dodgers have no one batting behind him to drive him in)

This all while playing most of his games in the most offensively challenged ballpark division (Dodgers Stadium, ATT, and Petco)

I challenge anyone to find a single player putting up better numbers than him in all of those categories. The guy is on his way to be a 40/40 man, with over 100 RBIs and over 100 runs scored, while coming close to leading the league in hitting, and being in the top 5 in just about all offensive categories. If the season ended now and he did not win the MVP (he should get all first place votes), that only proves there is bias. I guarantee if he played for Boston, NY, or most other teams east of the Rockies, he would be getting much more attention.

Only people I would suggest (not in NL btw.) would be Adrian Gonzalas and Miguel Cabrera, also, I didn't pull the numbers, just expect that they all are very close.

Unfortunately, as you know it's a popularity contest, not whose playing the best.

If they really want to change that, they should take the voting away from the fans (100 million yankees fans tend to sway things) and give the voting to the players, managers and GMs.

I am an NL and want the NL....but the all-star game has become soo boring. I think alot of it has to do with the AWFUL annoucers we have had since FOX took over. I think they should allow all the legends that are still announcing and any that may have retired do the games.

That has happened before- from 1958 to 1969, every all star game player was determined By managers, players, and coaches.

I was just starting to get to know the teams back then ..... in '69, I was 8 !
Didn't pay much attention to how things were done back then, just enjoyed the ASG !

When its all said and done, I don't think Tex will be the Starter and if he gets chosen over one of the 2 already mentioned, something should be done.

Despite the fact that he's leading the Major Leagues in home runs, I hope Texeira doesn't even make the team. I would rather him have three days off.

Well, it depends on how you want to look at it ...
Tex is ahead in HR's 24 to 16/15, however .....
If you need a hit, your better off with Gonzalas or Cabrera

Tex is hitting a meager .246 while Gonzalas is hitting .357 and Cabrera .333.

Which would you rather have ?
A high percentage player hitting 80+ points better and still able to hit HR's or the guy that if he doesn't hit a HR, he's more than likely not getting on base.

What is Tex's avg with Runners in Scoring Position ?
I don't know where to find that stat, but last I saw, Cabrera was hitting about .475 with RISP.
Gonzalas has more RBI and Cabrera has a few less that Tex.

Who would you take if you needed a 1B player after looking at the stats ???

You convinced me. Actually, I was convinced already. Leave Texeira off the team for Yankee fans' sake. Give him three days rest.

The last few posts are exactly why Kemp will not win the MVP and why Beltre did not win it in 2004, even though he should have. The reason is because they play on the west coast. If Gonzalez was still a Padre and putting up the same numbers (which would be even more amazing considering Petco is much less hitter friendly and the Pads lineup has no protection), not a single one of you would have even mentioned him in a single post. Since he plays for the Sox, the last two pages are about him.

Yes, I know Bonds who also plays on the west coast, won the MVP in 2004, but Bonds is Bonds, he was the rare exception as it did not matter where he played, as well as someone like Pujols.
