How times have changed. In years passed, when a no hitter or perfect game was closing in, you could tune to ESPN and other sports sources to see the coverage. Today, you couldn't even catch the final outs on the MLB Network! And they have partnered in with FOX for Saturday Baseball with in-game reports and coverage.

Lets go with Papelbon. Oh, wait a minute, bring in Masterson... No, make that Bard... No, make that Melanson....No wait, bring in Jenks..., no wait, how about Bailey?

Can't anybody play this here game?

In years past, we read about it in the next day's paper. Or in Sports Illustrated or the Sporting News. The whole last inning was telecast live on free broadcast TV.

I don't know how much the fine is for a manager skipping out on a post game interview, but if I were Valentine, I'd just skip out and pay it.

What is happening in Boston is not a reflection of Valentine; it is a reflection of the egos and poor chemistry of the players, as well as a poor bullpen. They think they run the team and they shown that last year when they blew making the WC. This is just carrying over from last year. They can bring in the best manager in the world and few things are going to change.

I gotta tell ya, regardless of what that gasbag douche, Lance Berkman said about Marlins stadium:

It is a beautiful park. Like I said yesterday, Miami has NEVER been brick buildings and parks that "fit the neighborhood". Miami has always been about art decco and colorful. New and somewhat minimalist. When you see the monstrosity when a Marlin hits a home run, on video, you cringe... in person, you stare and say to yourself..."hmm..that seem sort of cool".

It may be a beautiful park, but that green is difficult to take.

Kemp just hit ball that I don't think I have ever seen go as far. He hit one on the archway in CF in Houston. Not the portion in LF, but in CF. That had to be 500 ft.

BTW, he now has 9 HR and still has not pulled one. Everyone has gone to the opposite field or CF.

This is truly embarrassing! How do you lead 9-0 and blow it? Of course as a Yankee fan I'm enjoying it immensely, but still....

I've run out of adjectives to describe how I feel about this team. Henry and company are reaping what they sowed.

ESPN.com reports that the Boston Red Sox are about to acquire Marlon Byrd from the Cubs in exchange for a lefthanded reliever, presumably a minor leaguer. Byrd is 34 and in the final year of a 3 year, $15 million contract and will fill in for Crawford and Ellsbury. I don't know the intracacies of the MLB luxury tax and soft cap, but one reason given for the Red Sox lack of interest in Oswald was that they absolutely had to stay under the cap for one season because doing so resets it and then puts them on a lower penalty track for the next few years and supposedly, the difference between qualifying for the cap reset and not doing so was going to make a difference of tens of millions of dollars. I'd like someone who understands the MLB cap to explain how they can take on Byrd's $6 million in remaining salary without jeopardizing their anticipated cap reset.
It is official now. I want to know why? It is not offense they need, it is pitching, particularly relieve pitching. So they trade relief to get more offense? And at his age, Byrd is not an upgrade from what they are currently platooning.

I'd like to see if Lance would say the same things if he had to sit in the stands for 20-80 games at one of the "nostalgia" parks. I would bet he'd change his tune.

Actually pnc park is really nice, not a bad seat to see the game and they are comfortable seats.
