How do you fix this?

First, shame is never going to work. Any group of people that would go on strike when making an AVERAGE of a million dollars a year have no shame.

So, when Baseball gets a real commissioner, he (or she) should:

- Make every player understand that if they are not on the DL, and they do not play in the ASG, they will be fined 5 times their ASG bonus or $500K, whichever is more.

- Stop playing a game on Sunday night and have only one game on Thursday, one involving teams that are probably only going to have a single ASG player each, thus giving the players 2 days off after the ASG anyway.

- End this Monday silliness. This HR Derby stuff is crap. Players show up, if they want, Tuesday morning and, if they want, can leave Tuesday night. That is the way it used to work. Aaron won the MVP one year, and was already in Atlanta when he did, because he took his one at bat, took a cab to the airport and flew commercial back to ATL.

1st of all, I would love to have a commissioner for each of the professional leagues to think of THE GAME 1st and foremost...but with BILLION dollar contracts with TV providers, those days are long gone....that will NEVER happen again.

2ndly, with all the good works that Jeter has done AND being on the one of the most recognized professional teams in ALL of sports AND after being hunted down by the NY media everyday about his 3000 hit.... Jeter and anyone like Jeter, will ALWAYS get a pass. IF this would have been Cal Ripken going through the same thing WITH NY media and would have done the same thing.... he TOO would have gotten a pass.

With that said, I DO agree that he should at least show up, tip your cap, stay on the bench for a couple of innings and hall arse out of town.

As far as the All-Star game, it has been come to much fluff/"pagentry". I like the way it was done in the late 70s/early 80s.
