Thanks for the reminder LoTech I got your PM. I will be back with some updates soon. The snow is slowing us down a little and we are not caught up yet on the E-mails. Some of our staff are updating their computers to Ubuntu so as to keep toolbars and updates from slowing down their computers. God Bless !!!

that is a fantastic choice for an operating system, ive been running ubuntu for a few years now and love it, it is by far my favorite.
my wife loves free games and facebook and i had all kinds of problems with cleaning viruses and add ware off of it every week. and after several times of formatting and reloading windows i loaded ubuntu on it.
best move i ever made, this thing has run great for a couple years now.

I tried Ubuntu. It's OK, but I prefer Debian myself. It seems to perform better on older machines.

Has anyone noticed that FreeDBS now shows a New Sci-Fi Channel in the channel list. I can't identify the movie though.

I thought that I would mention that there is a Computer Videocast called "Cat 5", hxxp://www.category5.tv/ perhaps freedbs might want to check it out and see if they are interested in running it.

It would be nice to get channels of the same caliber as History and Bio on AMC4.
Most everything else is just mediocre. Except RFD, Fox Movie Channel, AMG and a couple of others on c-band. Some of the ku and c-band sports channels are okay.

At least we've got something to look forward to. I'm hoping for 20 good channels of any sort.

and there are a ton of Sci-Fi movies that in the public domain. Many are not that good ,but its free and its good old fashion entertainment. FYI preview movie on their web site is Gamera vs. Viras (or Destroy all Planets). Yea i'm a monster movie fan. Also who owns the rights to In Search Of..... with Leonard Nimoy. That was a great show.

Have you ever tried linux puppy? it runs on old slow pcs and will run off a flash drive or cd or you can load it on hdd.

yes, i love puppy, i have it on a 8 gig flash drive so when i have to use someone else's computer, i dont have to worry about viruses, and man, puppy is fast!! (because it is lean and loads its self into ram after booting), but, ubuntu is by far more stable, more user friendly, and compatible with more. (if you want to see what i mean, try installing wine in puppy, you just about need a hammer and a chisel)

I've used Yellow Dog on an old underpowered Mac power pc and Knoppix live CD. No complaints either way.

I think about Linux the same way I think about FTA. As long as it's not Micro$oft (or Directv/DN) I'm good.

Either 83W or 87W would be useful, since four degree spacing on a single dish is rather easily obtainable. Another interesting satellite would be 93W, which would give four degree spacing with 97W.

there was never any power issues on 83W. RTV just used a lower powered uplink

93 is pretty vacant after G26/IA6/T6 had that failure. I know they moved G25/IA5/T5 there and that satellite is pretty old.
