From what I have heard, on this forum no doubt, is Directv is coming out with it's own "superdish" if you will that will have 5 lnbs on it. This will encompass the new satellite where new locals will go.
Neutron, from what Dan over on DBSforum is saying the new 'superdish' will not have 72.5 access on it, there's just no way to make a single dish for 72.5 through 119 and still have it fit within FCC guidlines.

Look earlier in this thread where Scott posted that the new superdish for Directv will encompass 72.5 to 119.

I don't know about everyone else here, but if what that guy "directvrep" or whatever his name is turns out to be true, and that some markets will need another dish to get locals, I will be back to cable in a snap.

Not sure where you have been the past year. This has been the plan for the next 24 or so local markets since News Corp bought DirecTV. It was part of their deal with the FCC for approval that they would put these markets at 72.5 temporarily for a couple years.

Nothing new here.

INformation from Zap2-it listings

I just accessed the Zap2-it listings for DirecTV in my zip code (21045) near Baltimore, MD and these are the stations listed:

73 ESPN HD
74 Bravo DT
76 Dis HD
78 HDnet MV
79 HDnet
80 WCBS DT
81 KCBS DT
85 Spice HD
88 HBO HD
91 Show HD

Since I live in a "white" area the network CBS feeds are not available to me, so my "new" HD channels are Bravo and Spice. I hope that D* is not counting the network feeds in their promised 24 HD channels, because this would not be fair to the people who will not be able to get them.

I think having to get waivers is a joke. If someone is willing to pay to get the distant nets in HD I think that person should be allowed to receive them.

Since COX provides free basic cable on the line anyways, I will most certainly use that instead of another Dish.

Having two dishes is just totally stupid. Do they honostly think thousands of subscribers in the nations 24 largest metro areas are going to put up another dish? What a joke. I thought Directv had a better idea of what they were doing, but I guess not.

For the record that Directvrep sounds like a B.S. artist. He may very well be a employee but he comes accross like he is doing a great service to the world whenever he posts here. I am not sure what his deal is but certainly no statement he makes i take as "fact".

Are we talking about two different things here? D*'s talking about the need for a 2nd dish for SD locals in the following cities:

Boise, ID
• Burlington, VT — Plattsburgh, NY
• Cedar Rapids-Waterloo, IA
• Champaign-Springfield-Decatur, IL
• Charleston, SC
• Chattanooga, TN
• Columbia-Jefferson City, MO
• Davenport, IA
• Evansville, IN
• Fort Smith, AR
• Fort Wayne, IN
• Greenville-New Bern-Washington, NC
• Lincoln-Hastings, NE
• Peoria-Bloomington, IL
• Sioux Falls, SD
• Springfield, MO
• Syracuse, NY
• Toledo, OH
• Traverse City, MI
• Johnson City, TN-Bristol, VA/TN-Kingsport, TN (Tri-Cities)
• Johnstown-Altoona, PA
• Youngstown, OH
• Waco-Temple-Bryan, TX
• Wausau-Rhinelander, WI

I don't know about you but I don't consider these anywhere near being the "24 largest metro areas " in the nation.

BTW, E*'s been requiring a 2nd dish in MAJOR cities, such as NYC, LA, Chicago, etc, for a number of years to get ALL their local stations, some were on 110/119 while others were on 61.5 or 148.

If your locals are already available and you have them using the phase-III dish then why are you griping?? None of these locals will be affected by the two dish solution.

I mis-read, I thought current locals would be switched a new dish.

Thanks for the clear up.

Directv will continue to get the check from me.

Johnstown-Altoona, PA is certainly on my list of top 5 largest places on earth...............

You're thinking about the locals that were moved to the new satellite launched this summer, in which it's in the same location (119) as the satellite that was hosting those locals. Louisville, KY, my DMA, was one of the sets of locals that was moved.

So how does a customer like myself find out that Bravo-Hd has been added to channel 74 without just flipping to by total chance? Wouldn't D-Tv be so proud of itself that it would let me know by a simple email or utilize that stupid and never used on screen message feature they use? Seems simple enough to me.

Sorry for being off topic... but here it is.

The last thing anyone wants is another stupid dish up to get a select few channels, that is just plain nuts. If it turns out that I need a second dish to get locals I will be more than happy to bring my dish to the nearest directv rep and throw it at him and tell him to eat me. I am not running a NASA control room here, I do not want one dish on my porch, let alone 2. If you had any sense "directvrep" you would put in a word to your supervisor that the idea of an additional dish to get locals is totaly unacceptable.

I feel like you do not really know all what is going on with addition of HD service (last i checked you were a resolution specialist or some by the hour worker, not a middle manager). I hope you are not trying to jerk us around here with all this confidential important person talk.

I have yet to be impressed with the direction Directv is going.

Just to give you a rundown, DirecTv chain of command is :
Cust Service Rep, Supervisor, Res Spec ( that would be me ), Manager, Operations Manager, Centre Director, Client, DTV HQ. I believe that earlier posts show that you have nothing to worry about with the 2nd dish requirement. I apologize that you feel so harshly about me. I utelize my own time ( lets see that again... I DO NOT GET PAID FOR SURFING THE WEB AND POSTING ON BOARDS LIKE THIS) to help you guys in any way I can. If you don't like what I post... you'll be happy with my next announcement.

Just to play devils advocate..

Does anyone know if Directvrep is really a DirecTV employee? Is he just making this stuff up? From Reading posts like this:

{quote removed to limit repeditive posts}

It seems like it could go either way! He is either an employee just blowing DirecTV smoke on "100% Digital Quality" or he is not an employing trying to look like one.

Employee or not can we trust this information?

Just curious!

If you would like to validate my status as an employee, I'd be more than glad to accommodate. Feel free to ask anyone that I have assisted via the phone. I'm not sure of anyone here other than Neutron that I have done so... but it is possible. Or, if you would like, E-mail me with an account number, name, and phone number and I would be more than glad to follow up with you on any DirecTV related issues that you have.

I regret to inform the forum however, that due to this criticism.... I think I have outlasted my stay here and have become a hindrance rather than a help.
I will not surf these forums in order to reduce confusion and to eliminate chance of conflict.
If anyone has a DirecTV related issue that I am able to help out with... feel free to e-mail me as well.
As always,

Your Friendly DTV Res Spec

Too late.

Directvrep, don't let a few uninformed flamers or other narrow-minded putzes here discourage you to participate....we appreciate your information!

There's so much misinformation going around the WEB, that some facts are nice now and then. It never ceases to amaze me how emotional some folks get over their TV services. How about some perspective......

Anyway...I happen to believe that DirecTV's slowly-but-surely evolution into HDTV is smart. D*TV can only deliver HDTV programming that exists, and until very recently, quality content has been limited at best.

D*TV is growing and profitable. They consistently have the highest marks for customer service. They have market share in their industry, and invest heavily in future service. All of these things combined as a whole equals a successful business plan. I see no one else in the sat TV space with the same attributes. Everyone needs to stop the shouting, enjoy what they have, and look forward to what is about to come very soon.

Life is good. HDTV is good. Enjoy.

Directvrep, please do not leave because of a few jerks on this forum. Your information is very helpful.

To those who are doubthing Directvrep's position with Directv. HE IS AN EMPLOYEE THERE! He's personally helped me so I can promise yall he works there. He is not a CSR, he's above a CSR. Would you people stop pissing him off? We don't have a lot of direct representation from Directv on this forum.

I never said I didn't think he works for DirecTV, I just questioned some of the information he offered, because it doesn't make sense to me. I could be wrong, but so could he. We are all wrong occasionally, and that's the strength of forums like this... there are enough people that bad information can get corrected. You can't get all pissy every time someone questions you. If you're going to participate in relatively anonymous internet forums, you need to have thicker skin than that. I also don't buy in to Scott's rumor that DirecTV's putting out a new multi-sat dish that incorporates 72.5, but I doubt that his feelings are very hurt about that.

I agree don't let some of the members sway your choice. I've been ousted a few times in other forums and I don't even work for DirecTV but my brother works very high up within the DirecTV Group so with that said I understand how some of the members even though very few can almost make it not worth your time as its your free time and I would rather do something else than to have explain myself all the time to the few members who will never be happy and will always find something to prove their so called case. But as always I'm here to help and share in whatever way I can and I suggest you stay as well and those of us who are open minded which is about 99% of members will glady make it up too you with thanks and hugs.

I also agree with Darin in that DirecTVreps posts didn't have much more than general information and I would question it further not too try and prove you wrong but to gain more information about this. Simply specifics is what we all like but I also know that some specifics can't be told and are only made available to specific employees that have much too lose such as my brother. There are things I can't even hint here pretty much because he is one of 4 people who have been given the information and they can get my specific IP information and will link my account information from my ISP with my brother and you know whats next. Sadly to say this has been done once last year and its very hard to be done. The problem is that if some information gets out it would put DirecTV in a very bad situation regarding law but just information.
