Hi all,

I made some posts months back asking about 2 Hopper 3’s installed. I kept putting this off and about 3 weeks ago I received an offer so I pulled the trigger.

300.00 gift card
No activation fees. (Including Hopper 3 fee previously told me 49.00 on the phone)
No credit check (I have good credit but still cool)

I purchased a second Hopper from Dish Depot so they will be installing both on Saturday.

My question is related to the install. When I purchased this house it had an old dish receiver. I’ve never had this removed and wanted to know if they would take the old down and put the new right in the same place? I get that it’s my property but wanted to know if they would be cool and just put the new right in the same place? I assume it depends on the installer?

Also, I thought about having them install an OTA antenna while they are here. I didn’t request this on the initial order but if I wanted that done when they arrive is that something they will do? I understand it’s 149.99.

Thanks,

If you want an OTA antenna, I suggest adding it to the order before the tech comes out.

I doubt they will do an antenna install if you add it to the order after the fact and will use it as an excuse to reschedule.

I don’t know anyone offering to setup service without a credit check.

Your probably better off calling a local retailer and returning the hopper 3 to Dish Depot. The dealer can likely get you a way better price with the antenna and hopper3.

The $300 gift card looks suspicious.

All the gift card offers are dealer funded right now. Most of the time the dealer isn’t even making $300 on the sale. So I don’t see how they can give you $300 which would be above and beyond the dish network offers if you ordered Directly through them.

The reason why I suggest a dealer is because I usually would do the second DVR and antenna install at my cost, because I was just happy to get the sale.

As far as removing the old Dish, dealer will likely do it if you ask when you sign up with them. If your using a dish tech, it’s hit or miss if you can get them to do additional work.

When I was a national sales partner for dish, I can tell you without a doubt if it wasn’t on the work order, it wasn’t getting done. I couldn’t promise anything above the standard install, because likely the tech would say no, charge more money and we would have to rebate it back to the customer so they wouldn’t cancel the install.

Credit check was not done. I didn’t even provide my full SSN to Dish over the phone. I have Lifelock as well so I know it wasn’t done. The letter I received from Dish also has this in writing.

A local retailer can give me a way better price for a second Hopper 3? I paid 230.00 and Dish wanted 350.00?

I confirmed with dish several times about the gift card. It comes directly from Dish not a third party. This is also on the pre approved letter from Dish.

Do you know who you ordered through? What's the $300 gift card for?
He ordered through a retailer, probably via mail flyer or something like that. Many of them use the Gift Cards as a part of their sign up.

To the OP, do you know what Dish is on your roof? The tech might just be able to use it, if it's a 1000.2 and if you buy the OTA, then yeah, he'd install it because you bought it - which you can do when the tech arrives. Calling Dish to add it probably won't work since you apparently ordered from a retailer but you can try that but if you buy it form the tech, he get's a commission. Something too think about

I ordered directly through Dish by calling their call center in Colorado. No retailer was used.

I'm not sure what dish is on the roof but I will take a picture later today of what is there.

I havent purchased an OTA antenna. I just saw they offered they offered to install one for $149.00 and that includes the antenna. I just didnt know if you could request that on the spot. Sort of like an upsell type of thing.

DISH has been direct mailing to specific customers with a $300 gift card offer that retailers can honor. The offer is only good for the customer to which it was mailed.

You should always call your local retailer first, if you have a good one. :)

The closest retailer is about an hour away. I emailed twice and called twice and received no response a few months back. That Was kind of the reason I held of ordering a few months ago.

It looks like it’s due to snow on install day. Do they typically cancel/reschedule install when it is lightly snowing/raining?

If they don't answer the phone or return email promptly then they probably wouldn't be classified as a 'good' retailer. :)

A retailer too busy to call or email you back? Did I take a time machine back to 2003?

Maybe they weren't too busy but thought they were too far away or they were short handed at the time or something. IMHO there's absolutely no reason not to return a call or email. That's just rude.

A person answers the phone here all the time except Sunday mornings when everybody is at church. And every email is responded to promptly.
