I've been posting most of my newbie questions over on the BUD discussion forum. Now I have sorted out most of my problems (mostly confusion). Getting some of the old analog standards but nothing of interest to me.

That's why I'm over here. I have looked at the subscription service packages offered by NPS and this morning I started browsing, following links to other possible service providers. From some forum comments, it sounds like all service ultimately comes from NPS, thru "Resellers".

If this is the case, I have no problem, as long as I can just get the channels and programs I want. I'm 72 so I don't need "toons" or "Speed", never cared for sports, I can think for myself so no FOX, liberal enough to watch the three basic networks, fall asleep in most movies so no HBO etc.. You see where I'm going. I could live with a dozen channels if they include the three networks, PBS, CNN, Sci. History, Military, Discovery, Biography and maybe a few others.

If I look at the alacart package, it looks 'spendy'. The mid priced bundle package has more channels but few of the ones I want and the MAX package is too expensive for my needs. Right now I get most of what I want with D**h family package for about $360/yr but their equipment and enable fees kill me.

Where do you'll recommend I look (I was going to say "Go"!)

Thanks

Steve

I have been subscribing with SRL. They are not affiliated with NPS.

programming-center.net/
:up +1 on programming-center.net

They offer most of what I watch on W5 (105W)
My 4DTV can't see past 125W
So I could get away with a fixed dish for a few pennies more each month.

I SRL and programming-center.net one and the same??

I have been browsing programming -center and haven't seen a true alacart or alacart 10 package. Maybe I should call them.//

Thanks for the leads.

Still learning the menus, etc. with the 920. Even though it has been declare to have an Invalid Unit ID everything seems to work and I've programed in a half dozen satellites. All as a learning "experience".

I have a 905 sidecar that I will ultimately be using but haven't paired it with the requisite Analog box yet. I plan to try it with the GI 450i since it has some features I like. I'm just waiting for a remote control to arrive. (an actual 450i remote)

Back to the 920 "experience"! I want to try and program W5 but it isn't in my list of Sat.s. I'm not sure I'm doing the right thing to download the new map, etc.. I left the 920 on G1 last night and the list was still the same. I noticed the date was correct but the time was off by a lot more than a few time zone. I think it was 1:45 PM when local was 6:45Am pac.time zone. Maybe I need to contact a service provider for that.

I don't plan to start subscription service for a couple more weeks since I will be out of state.

Even without W5 in the 920 list, I tried following the NPS procedure to calculate and move to the location of W5. This procedure/calculation requires G3 and G4. I can find G4 16 without any problem but G3 seems to be a problem since there don't appear to have any Feeds that I can search for. In the NPS Satellite listing they only list "ABC Feeds" and the rest are just "Occasional Feeds". There doesn't seem to be anything there to verify that I am on G3.

Can I get W5 using any other method other than "My own Blind search". I use the signal meter but that is a real hastle and seems to be only good for peaking the signal.

Any advise is alway appreciated.

Steve
