Hello all. I have finally decided to order Dish Network and the installer is suppose to come tomorrow afternoon. I am doing the most nerdy thing you can do and I will have both services DirecTV and Dish. I have had DirecTV for about two years and I do enjoy it. I just wanted Dish Network also for some reason. I plan on writing a review from my perspective on having DirecTV for all this time and then getting Dish Network if anyone would like to read it.

I do have a few questions for you Dish guys.

1. How is the On Demand? I have heard it's nothing like DirecTV's but do they have TV shows you can watch On Demand?

2. I am getting a 722 and a 211. Can I watch my recorded shows on my 722 from my 211?

3. I was originally going to get a 922 and use my SlingCatcher to watch my other TV. I had already updated the firmware in my SlingCatcher so that was a no go. Do any of you know when the Sling Receiver should be released and do you think there will be a monthly charge to use it to watch the 922?

My plan is to use the service for a month or so and when the Sling Receiver comes out send the other two boxes back and upgrade to a 922.

Sorry for all the questions but I have been doing my research just couldn't find any answers to these questions.

1) The interface blows on the on demand, but I hear that will be changing "soon".
Dish has some NBC TV shows for (get this) 50 cents a piece. HAHAHAHAHAHA... never.

2) No
well I take that back back maybe. I think if you use an External hard drive you may be able to transfer programs to the EHD and move it to the 211. HOWEVER, there is a $40 fee to for EACH receiver to connect an external hard drive. Also having an external hard drive connected to your 211 will make it a DVR.
---fees: 722 $40 external hard drive activation fee. 211 $40 DVR activation Fee (for lack of a better term).
3) Sorry, do not know. Some one else may have an answer to that, but anything in the future is speculation until you see a press release.

2- watching recorded shows on both the 722 and 211

I recently investigated that, and other posters say "no" that the External Hard Drives formatted for the 722 (or 622 or 612 or 722k) do not work on the 211(k), because the 211 is converted to being a DVR by adding the hard drive, so the format is different.

The main thing I hear from people is that the 722 is a better DVR than any of DirecTV's, so I would be interested to know if you have the same impression.

My plan is to use the service for a month or so and when the Sling Receiver comes out send the other two boxes back and upgrade to a 922.

That will be a very expensive plan. If you want the 922, then get it now. You can't simply send back your other two receivers and request that they send you a 922 instead. Even though you might be leasing the 722 and 211, Dish will set you up with new receivers. They usually allow you to upgrade one receiver per year, so they'll want you to keep the 722 or 211 for a year, before you can upgrade to the 922.

I got installed today. Here are some quick first impressions.

1. The installer was an idiot. Loud, offensive and just odd. First thing he did when he gets here is grab my Slimline and shake the hell out of it. So why he was installing my dish I was trying to sight my DirecTV Slimline dish back in. I was sad to come in and see my wonderful 95-98 signal now at 30 because my friendly neighborhood Dish man decided to Kung Pow my Slimline dish for some reason.

The other funny story: I was trying to gauge his knowledge and just made mention that Echostar XV was going up next month. He answer was "Well, where is it going?" I said "It's going to 61.5" Then there was silence and he says "There is no way, it wouldn't work. This head here only has three LNB's it can't pick up an extra satellite." I said "Sir, that head you are installing picks up alot more that three satellites." Then I got the your stupid, I hate you look. So I went inside.

Any Who that is my installer story. Quick points: (Please keep in mind I have only used this system for a few hours, so I may not know shortcuts that would help me.)

1. I really like the PIP it is great.
2. I don't really see where Dish's PQ is worse than DirecTV's. Now I would not say it is better then DirecTV's but in my opinion not worse.
3. The menu system for the 722 is cumbersome to me. Why do I have to press the same button twice to get to my recordings. Also, getting to On Demand is a hassle.
4. Not being able to hide SD Duplicates in the guide is kinda annoying to.
5. I like the enhanced guide, looks cool and more real estate to see what's on.
6. I like not having to have a phone line hooked up in the bedroom and still get Caller ID information on the bedroom box.
7. The Dish DVR boots about 1000 times faster than the DirecTV DVR does.
8. Also, I am OCD and like to assign Static IP's to my equipment, haven't found the option for that yet.

That is about it for now. After I use the system for awhile I will share some more.

I started to post an indepth response to the OP, but the more I typed the more I felt this is B.S. If I had an installer come to my house and acted the way he implies I would send him packing in a very harsh way. Staff please place this in another forum. B.S.

Glad you didn't post and 'indepth' response nothing you post is ever of value anyway. Go bother someone else instead of wasting people's time.

I agree Frank Jr.
Why would you let someone like that in your house? Better yet, when the dummy screwed with your slimline I would have kicked him in the ass out of my house and got Dish on the horn IMMEDIATELY. That is unacceptable.

I could maybe understand if you switched from D* to E* and they wanted to use the same mast but why touch something already there (or in your case rip the heck out of it)?

Why would you allow someone like you describe in your home?

I wanted the service. Even though he was rough, he was out in 95 degree heat pole mounting my dish. I just couldn't tell the guy to leave after he had been through that. I could have told him to get the hell off my property but what would that have solved? I would have had a dish half installed and no service. So, I let the guy finish.

1. I now have service.
2. Never have to deal with him again.

um...other than a D1000+ that can see 4 satellites but looks like it has 3 LNB's no other LNB combo can see more than 3

D1000.2 sees 110-119-129
D1000.4 sees 61.5-72.7-77

I was just trying to help people and give me thoughts on being new to Dish after having DirecTV for so long.

I thought that what the forum was for but as soon as I post I have people telling me I am a liar and do not know how to run my household.

You talking locations I am talking actual birds.

The 1000.4 sees more than 3 birds at the 3 locations it is pointed too.

Sorry, I still say B.S. You should be embarrassed if you let someone like that in your home. I damn sure would not have........

So, your saying anyone who has ever rubbed you the wrong way you give them hell an threw them out your house? Please, take your I should be embarrassed, better than everyone junk and go find someone else's post to interrupt and harass.

What you described is not rubbing someone the wrong way. That is damaging personal property........
