NHL 2012 off-season notes & transactions

Isn't this the same thing the NFL did ?

Or was is Baseball but you may be right Jimbo it was 1 of the sports :) I wouldn't blame the NHLPA with Fehr running things and Bettman who is just as worse running the NHL :)

Not only is that nice, but the fact that they still have jobs at this point is also a nice thing to do. Some teams have laid off people.

The Blue Jackets have not laid anybody off yet either. They started by giving executives 50%, scouts 30% and office staff 10% salary cuts. They have come out and said that they are going to due everything that they can to avoid layoffs this time around.

I tread here in this article that it was the NBA that did it last year :) NHL files suit, labor charge against union http://www.stltoday.com/sports/nhl-...cle_45d11d97-d6a4-592d-93d6-ca4e3bd006b7.html

There is one big piece missing from this story. NHL is looking to void all contracts and make all players unrestricted free agents.

How would you like all of your favorite players on your teams all of a sudden signing a deal with a different team?

don't forget the World Junior Tournament started on the 26th, the only thing that is bad about it most of the live games are in early morning

NHL has cancel another set of games. This time through 1/14.

Now I REALLY could not care less
. I was willing to give in if there was a New Year's Day filled with games. Start the New Year right, etc. Now I am truly over it. I actually don't miss it at all. I DVR the college and other games to watch when I need to watch something. But the Clippers are actually FUN to watch right now and I am getting back into basketball. Spring Training will be early this year due to the WBC and NHL will be a distant memory to me.

NHL Game Cancellations

You know, I paid very little attention to college hockey. I watched a game every now and then. When the NHL pulled this stunt back in '04 college hockey filled the void. It took me a couple of seasons to get back to watching the NHL. It was good to watch a game early in the week while waiting on the weekend college games, but the interest didn't seem to be as strong as it used to be. Now with the cancellation of the games through 14 Jan 13, I could care less if they ever come back. Players or owners, who is the blame? I don't really care. Anyway, here is the latest on the strike/lockout.

I don't know if they are realizing it or not, but they are KILLING the game, IMO, especially in places that were shaky to begin with. Toronto and Montreal will always play hockey, but Tampa, Miami, and Dallas might just forget about it totally. And I don't blame it on one side or the other, really, they are BOTH to blame.

Kinda like the dumbkopfs on 16th and Georgetown just did firing the one guy that was getting some positive traction for Indycar. I've about had enough of that too. LOL

Even here in Ohio hockey isn't that big. Too much baseball and football for most to worry much about hockey. The Cyclones hockey team here survives but never a big crowd. NHL may lose what following they had.
