I have a Viewsat 9000HD connected to a OTA Antenna and I get around 65 Channels weather permitting... I can pick up a Viewsat 2000 Ultra at a good price but I cant find any infro on them getting OTA Channels... I see videos of the setup being done and even have seen the Operators Manual but when it comes to scanning options there isn't one there for Terrestrial Scan as the 9000HD has...!

Does anyone here have an Ultra and getting OTA Channels with their STB...?!? Thanks in Advance, Happy New Year...!

Those receivers are ancient. The Ultra doesn't do anything except DVB-S satellite reception, and is pretty much only good for a few channels here and there as technology has moved way beyond that. Both those receivers were commonly used back in the day for TOS. I wouldn't bother with it even if you get it for free.

IF the 9000HD is getting OTA channels, and you are happy with it, why not? Not likely many others out there still using one, but maybe a few.

Thanks for the reply. I am looking for a backup STB that gets Terrestrial Channels as We get quite a bit of Lightning around these parts...! Lost a VIP222 not too long ago an as I no longer deal with Sat Providers and My 3' Pan is surrounded by trees I have been regulated to using OTA and Android...! Like I posted I can get around 65 OTA Chnls here and I am Happy with that. I have heard that a Viewsat 2000 Ultra can do OTA but have yet to see "Terrestrial Scan" in any Video or PDF...! I could just Connect the OTA Antenna directly to My 55" HDTV but I would rather spend a few $'s instead of a few Hundred...!

Consider something like this, IF you want a good dvr that's REALLY cheap. Add an external harddrive, and you can record like an old-school VCR, only better: Amazon product

IF you can't see the Amazon link, disable your Ad Blocker, and hit refresh! You can re-enable it later.

Or research far MORE tv devices here, but most more expensive. But you get far more for that money: HDTV Recorders - AVS Forum | Home Theater Discussions And Reviews

The Viewsat Ultra does not have a terrestrial tuner in it. The OTA antenna connection works as a combiner when you use the RF connection to the TV.

Thank You for Sharing that Tidbit...! Do You happen to know of any other STB that does have a Terrestrial Tuner for OTA...?!? Most do not advertise that Feature, even the Viewsat 9000HD doesn't advertise it, but it does have a Terrestrial Scan Function...

STBs with ATSC tuners are rare for sure. There are several with DVBT for the other side of the ocean but I haven't seen anything currently with an ATSC tuner in it. However I've been reading something interesting about one of the new 4k STBs, Edison MIO, in that regard. You can plug in an ATSC USB tuner into it. Definitely a nice feature :)

Are You speaking of this :

Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1950 External USB HDTV Tuner/Video Recorder 1192
The WinTV-HVR-1955 from Hauppauge is a USB TV tuner for ATSC, NTSC and clear QAM digital TV. Watch HD TV programs from ATSC or clear QAM digital cable. Watch, pause, and record television on a desktop or laptop computer. Built in Hardware MPEG-2. Includes remote control, IR blaster and FM Stereo Radio. Compatible with Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows XP Pro, and XP MCE with Service Pack 2.

I see that it can be connected to a VCR/DVD Recorder with RCA Jacks...!
Hope that didn't come thru as a Link, supposed to be C/P... If Wrong then Please Delete...!
