I personally would love to state my views on what Ozzie "said"...by the way do we know he really said this. After all its hard enough to understand what he says most of the time. Anywho...my views would probably get the post reported ;)

(ie: political views etc)

But I will state one thing....nice double standard though....this comment especially

"We're in the United States, we don't have to bring any coaches that speak Spanish to help anybody. You choose to come to this country and you better speak English. -"

So because Ozzie (a Hispanic) said it then MLB wont say anything. But god forbid another manager, scout, front office guy whatever who ISNT Hispanic would have said something and his ass would be in the unemployment line TODAY for "racist comments" or something of the nature

I officially forgive you for all of your anti-NBA comments now. :D

I totally agree with you. But falls under the ole "don't you call my ho a bit**...!" category.

Yes!Yes!Yes! That is what I was trying to get at without getting political.

I would also say from taking Spanish to high school, English to Spanish or vice verse is a bit easier than Japanese to English.

Again, let's take your point...a good one.

This issue has NOTHING to do with how hard or easy one language is to another. It has to do with one group getting one thing and taking out the equation of learning with an interpreter...and the another being told to learn without the benefit of a interpreter.

And unless you know BOTH Japanese AND spanish, can you really say one is easier than another....?

Did people miss the statement that Spanish players are taught English in the minors? Or are they ignoring it on purpose?

And I cannot say that I don't disagree.
well I do. Most teams have spanish speaking players and coaches that also speak english. How many teams have coaches that speak Japanese? For those teams to be required to hire a spanish interpreter is asinine. Ozzie has abandoned common sense on this one.

And btw, who's to say the Spanish speaking players around the league DON'T have a translator available to them? I know for a fact Fausto Carmona had a Spanish to English interpretor. Korean native, Sin Soo Choo also has a translator. Maybe Ozzie's club doesn't have a Spanish interpretor, because he THE COACH HIMSELF speaks Spanish so there's no need!

Did you ready the entire article? Did you ?

From that article:

- "We have a pitching coach that is Latino, but the pitching coach can't talk about hitting with a Latino guy and that's the way it is..." -

Hey Ozzie...perhaps the Latino pitching coach can INTERPRET if the hitter can't understand the hitting coach.

What? I don't understand what you are trying to say...

If you don't like it Ozzie, than why don't you quit, take yourself back to Venezuela with your wanna be dictator buddy Chavez. Let him decide how much you can make managing Caracas little league.

Players are offered English lessons in the minors, my friend teaches the players on the Reading Phillies.

I know the Red Sox have 2 Japanese players, but most teams have one if any. Every team has multiple Spanish speaking players that can communicate with each other.

I cant believe Salsa just doesn't get it? (yes I can)

You have a team with 1 Japanese guy, and No one else speaks the language. So of course you need to pay someone to act as an interpreter. Makes sense otherwise you cant communicate.

However if you have a team with 10 Latinos, and only 2 of them dont also speak english why pay someone when you have 8 other people who can do it for you?

Its pretty common sense and easy to understand?

OTL on ESPN today had a panel of people debating this, and there was support for what Ozzie had to say from Pedro Gomez and others. If they put it up on the OTL website tomorrow you should see it, good points were brought up. I had to leave before it was over, I'd like to see the end. It's not as simple as just interpreters.

That would be interesting to see.
