on some HD broadcasts I have black bars on each side.

techs tell me that is the way it is being broadcast. I have 50" pannie plasma 5yrs old, aspect is 16.9

Format on the remote does nothing to expand the picture.

Am using HD-DVR. Hope someone has a solution

The D* box doesn't allow you to change the aspect ration on a HD program, so if they send out a 4:3 image that's all you're going to get, you can't change it. The only thing you can do is either change the aspect ratio on the TV if it can do it, or watch the SD version of the channel which you can stretch to fill the screen.

The techs are right.... On some braudcasts there are black bars on the side as they are not in hd. Everything is not in hd, or braudcasted in hd. For those programs you will see black bars. When a program is in hd, those bars will dissapear.
