Poor SD Picture Quality

Hello everyone,

I have noticed decreased picture quality recently mainly on my local channels (namely ABC). Faint vertical-scrolling lines are visible in the background of the picture. This is especially noticeable on darker backgrounds. I am having the same issue on two separate TV's, so I'm sure it isn't the receivers. Any ideas?? Has anyone else had this problem? I was hoping to get away from problems like this by switiching from cable to Directv. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like electrical hum, induced into your cabling by being placed next to electrical wiring. Check your runs to make sure they are not running alongside any ac wiring, anywhere.

I have not noticed any vertical scroll lines however, the PQ will very greatly from one spot beam to another. I have noticed a general degradation of PQ across the board on my locals....

How far from the AC wiring should the cables be?

I'm not sure about distance but if you have to cross them do so in a way that they are perpendicular to each other.

Separation of a few inches should be sufficient. As SS noted, crossing a tright angles is acceptable, just not laid alonside one another.
