VOOM to Offer Heavyweight Championship Title-Fights in High Definition for Just $1.00
Friday April 16, 5:22 pm ET
VOOM Has Exclusive Rights to Air Fights Live in High-Definition

JERICHO, N.Y., April 16 /PRNewswire/ -- On April 17, VOOM, the first television service to offer a comprehensive array of HD programming to customers throughout the continental United States, along with Don King Productions, will bring "The Next Era Begins," a night of world championship boxing live from Madison Square Garden in high-definition. The exclusive live HD viewing of these spectacular title matches will cost just $1.00 for existing VOOM customers and to those who sign up before the fight.
"The Next Era Begins" is the second time VOOM and Don King Productions have partnered to show a fight of this magnitude in HD. VOOM is the only place to see the fights live and in HD. The fights are scheduled to air at 9:00 PM ET/6:00 PM PT.

"We are thrilled to be back in Madison Square Garden, the 'Mecca of Boxing,'" said promoter Don King. "April 17 will be a great night of championship boxing for the fans, headlined by two heavyweight title fights -- the crafty magician Chris Byrd against the always-dangerous 'Powerful Pole' Andrew Golota, and an all-Latino showdown between John Ruiz and Fres Oquendo. What a exciting night it will be."

"The Next Era Begins" will feature:
* In the first of the world heavyweight title fights, two-time WBA
Champion John Ruiz defends his crown against contender "Fast" Fres
Oquendo. It's the first time that two Puerto Ricans have ever fought
for the world heavyweight championship.

* The other heavyweight championship fight features IBF champion Chris
Byrd defending his crown against Andrew Golota. This bout will be
brought to us by DKP and Fight Night. It will be Byrd's second defense
of his title and Golota's second chance at a world heavyweight title.

* In an exciting pairing for the WBA Welterweight Championship Jose "El
Gallo" Rivera meets the colorful former WBA & WBC Champion Ricardo "El
Matador" Mayorga.

* WBA Cruiserweight Champion Jean-Marc Mormeck takes on former three-time
WBA Champion Virgil "Quicksilver" Hill. This mandatory bout will mark
Hill's 20th year since his Madison Square Garden debut in 1984.

* Brooklyn's Wayne "Big Truck" Braithwaite (20-0, 17 KOs) the undefeated
WBC Cruiserweight Champion defends his title against Louis "The Lion"
Azille (18-2-2, 15 KOs). The pair met in an elimination bout in 2001,
which gave Braithwaite his shot at the WBC title.

have they released that they now have fox news? sure would like to see them update their website sooner. Or even announce something before it happens! Take some credit why dont they? Im tired of hearing "well if theres no press release its just speculation"!

the Qand A referring to espn has been removed from their website. Where is it? why not give us an explaination? If negotiations have fallen through then they need to start them again! they cannot and will not make it wihout those espn channels. There is no way. If on the other hand they have signed espn then they need to post it. Why keep us in limbo?

If they would have put this out 2 weeks ago or even when we KNEW about it ,they may have gotten some RUSH sigh-ups(no jokes about rush installs)..but still it could have created a "buzz" or people going to watch where someone had VOOM then signing up
