Questions about going back to Dish

We had Dish network a few years ago before switching to local cable for internet access. Now I was wondering about going back to Dish to save some money as I'm dropping cable internet and had some questions. The dish itself is a Dish 500 that was professionally installed. When service was canceled Dish had us mail back the LNB and receiver. The dish is still in the same position and the cable running inside the house looks to be in good shape.

Would there be anything else I need to buy other than a replacement LNB and receiver to get service again?

I was thinking of getting the Dish VIP211k receiver. Are there any extra fees on your bill if you only have that one receiver and upgrade it to have DVR functionality, other than the $40 one time DVR cost? I will most likely get a new one so having a used one with a previous balance wouldn't be a concern.

Once everything is installed do you just call Dish and have them activate an account with payment info to get programming started?

Thanks

Why not just call Dish and let them install for free? You'll be a new subscriber and will get a good deal. You don't need to buy anything.

BTW that dish is obsolete and will be replaced.

There wouldn't be any additional fees fpr the 211,after the $40 dvr activation. As navychop mentioned, the dish 500 is older technology,if your wanting HD then you would need either a new dish,or a single dish aimed at 129 + the dish 500.

I wanted to thank you all for the recommendation to go ahead and call them. I didn't think they would offer a good deal if you only wanted a cheap pack like the Welcome Pack, but they did. Even after buying a receiver and having them install a new dish, it will pay for itself after 6 months of the difference from the cable company.
