Sat. and cable together

We decided that we would like some local channels so we added cable. I plugged the cable coax into the antenna part on the back of our sat box. the cable lost some channels and others went fuzzy, The Sat doesn't come in at all.
What would be the best way to combine both Satellite and cable ?

Make sure to turn your sat box off. Do you have analog or digital cable?
