i'm looking to find a one shot program or software that could replace satellite service is there such a thing?

NO, there is not. If there was, a LOT of people would be switching to it.

You can get an HTPC, watch shows from Hulu and the network's web page, Netflix, buy dvd's and things of that sort.

If http://www.ivi.com ever comes back from their court order to shut down, that would be the closest to what you are looking for.

Unless you've got only a couple of televisions, your broadband bill may be more than a satellite bill for a decidedly limited palette of programming.

Until everyone has 15+Mbps bandwidth, IPTV is a filler, not a primary provider.

As others have said, there's isn't one catch-all service that provides everything. Probably the closest you can get to getting everything from one set-top box is a Roku. You can access Netflix and Hulu Plus, and supplement the shows that aren't on those two services with Amazon on Demand buying individual episodes or seasons. You'll still be missing some programming from channels that just want to wear Internet blinders and continues to milk every last cent out of advertisers and subscribers for as long as they possibly can, but eventually they will have to come around at some point.
