I am a newbie & considering purchasing a Fortec 1 meter dish with a SG2100 Motor and Invacom LNB at a local Winnipeg Fortec dealer. I currently have a subscription to Bell on a 9200 receiver. Considering a Coolsat or other FTA receiver, for the Fortec motorized dish. Are there good setup instructions on how line up dish and motor on a peaked bungalow roof? Or would a 10 foot pole be a better idea for mounting?

What channels and satellites are you aiming for?

Putting a ku dish on a 10' pole is a bad idea (IMO) if the dish moves just a few millimeters you will loose the picture! I HATE putting satellite dish on a roof, but that may be your BEST option.

Most Invacoms are Universal (L.O. = 9750-10600)

But the Invacom QPH-031 is a standard on the linear side so the L.O. will be 10750

When you do add the motor........

The motor elevation = 40º

Dish (When on motor) elevation = 23º

Here is a good strong transponder to use when pointing the dish, watch ONLY for signal QUALITY!

Setting up Fortec 100 cm Dish on Sg2100 motor & Invacom LNB

What channels and satellites are you aiming for?

Putting a ku dish on a 10' pole is a bad idea (IMO) if the dish moves just a few millimeters you will loose the picture! I HATE putting satellite dish on a roof, but that may be your BEST option.

Thats a good question, don't know. Want to do it as a hobby and general interest in other sat feeds, besides my subscription sat. Is there enough info out there to make it worthwhile? Ie. I see guys here post about the Tube - I think on Sat 97. If I can ask what is the Tube? And is this a long installation since winter is almost here?

Takes me 2 hours to install a motorized system, but your best taking your time and enjoying the setup. It was 70º here in MN. yesterday so you should have just enough time to get the dish installed.

The Tube is an all music video channel, unfortunately is now only on C-Band satellite @ 87ºw (AMC-3) With C-band you will need at least a 6' (1.8m) dish!

Thank you for the info. It's cold up here. - 10 degrees (celcius) today and not much better for weekend. If it takes you 2 hours, it will take us 4 hrs minimum, since not having done this before. When we setup up the motor on the dish do we use sg2100 satcalculator.freehostia coordinates for my street in Winnipeg, then first set up for sat 97?? Is there a guide or info to help with choose which satellites to select? Being new to this area how can I find out what is of interest on the satellites such as 97 etc?

IA-5 is your TRUE south satellite, so thats the satellite you would be aiming at when setting up the motor.

Have a look here for help with the setup of the motor...........

Its sometimes an idea to find the satellite and store it (With above posted angles) without the motor first.

Thanks for your great help PSB. Especially the links. Took the plunge and bought the 100 cm dish, SG 2100 motor and Invacom LNB today. Ran into a problem trying to get the U square bolts inside the Azimuth Bracket. They hold the pole to the Dish. There is no way I can see these Bolts fitting inside, unless the Azimuth Bracket is bent out in a vise. No way can I get hold of Fortec Star help this weekend. Do you know if anyone can help??

Heavy Duty Mount for this 100 cm dish - $20.00. The salesperson showed me a really heavy duty OPTIONAL roof mount for this dish. Its a thick curved pipe that looks like the mounting for my Bell Subscription Dish. - only much bigger (thicker pipe) and sturdier. I was wondering if others have seen it, and is it worth purchasing? It sure looks like it could stand up to the wind.

Your reply would be appreciated.
