Dave,

I live near you. You should be able to get EA I have it no problem where I am at. Plus I have the 118 sat too.

Chris

they must be available on 61.5 or 72.7 as well. dish's new policy is to go ahead and install EA dishes even if there is no los for 77, provided the subs locals arent on there.

Yeah, looking at "The List!", it appears there's nothing on 77 other than locals. Maybe they intend to put more things on it later?

Not that I'm going to try to change the pending install of the 1000.4, but given that, I guess I could have had my 110/119 re-aimed to 72.7 (using only one lnb) and leave the 61.5 wing as it is. That would have seemed to be the simpler solution. However, being full EA may provide more ammo should DISH decide to screw me later, doing something like moving channels from 72.7 to 77.

Hi Chris,

Do you have the Platinum HD package and if so, are you getting the Eix 1&2, Retroplex, Indieplex, and Short Film HD channels?

Dave

The tech (very professional) came out at 0730 this morning. About 10 before he got here, he called asking, "What exactly is it you're needing done? All my work order says is 'service change, pole mount'." When I told him it was a 1000.4, he said, "Man, I sure wish they'd told me that. I don't have that dish with me." He came on out and had a look at the situation. I suspect he was hoping he could get by with a 1000.2 WA, but he soon realized it was impossible. After looking at the proposed site for the pole mount, he confirmed what the last tech said, except he thought the only trees I'd need to take out were two small ones where the last tech was thinking up to 5 large ones.

He said he had no problem laying the coax on top of the ground leaving it up to me to bury later.

He called his supervisor and was instructed to come back to the main office in Mesquite to pick up a 1000.4 dish. (The tech came from his home which is only about 18 miles away from my home, but his "main office" is a 3-hour round trip. He couldn't believe his boss was requiring this of him. I would have been fine with a reschedule, since I currently have TV, I just don't have the new HD channels.

I'm going to go ahead and cut down the two trees in question while I wait for him to get back. Sheesh...

Well, he came back at 1430 with a 1000.4. He'd apparently hit a good bump en route and all the equipment in his van had fallen over. It was a mess. It took quite a while to find the 1000.4 lnb.

A few things things he told me about that I had no idea needed to be done:
  • On pole mounts, they're initially supposed to temporarily mount the dish on a temporary metal platform to ensure line of site.
  • If there is no line of site, they are forbidden to instruct/advise the customer as to which trees are to be cut down.
  • Once line of site is confirmed the dish is installed via tripod. And all lines are run and confirmation is made that receivers are in working order with good signal strengths.
  • Then, "dig test" people are scheduled to come out and confirm that digging can be performed for the pole.
  • Then an installer will come out again and mount the dish on the pole.

He told me the way to get around the whole dig test delay is to dig the hole myself.

He said, "I can't tell you which trees to cut down, but that one is in the way" (wink, wink).

I had to cut down one more tree that was a pretty big one. My chain was getting dull in the middle of it so it was taking longer than I'd expected. He opted to leave and go to another job about 40 miles away while I was finishing the tree, digging the hole, mixing the sack crete, and leveling the pole.

I've had my shower and am ready to relax at this point. He just called, saying on his other job, he broke a water line while pulling a line. He'd just finished that up and it on the way.

This guy hasn't had a good day, but I certainly didn't sit back and watch. I still have a good sized tree to cut up, split, and stack.

I'm glad DISH isn't charging me for this, because I feel the tip is going to account for what I'd probably have paid DISH.

Well, the job is done...I hope. What transponders should I be checking for signal strength on 61.5, 72.7, & 77?

I'm getting all the channels. I just need to bury the line and cut up and split the tree.

I did some more research about the HD channels I'm missing. In addition to the HD channels I'm missing in the Platinum package like Indieplex, Retroplex, Epix 1&2, and Short Films, I'm also missing the HD channels I should be getting with my America's Top 200 channels like BBC America, E!, Hallmark, Tru, G4, and HLN. I get the standard channels, not the HD channels. All the channels have orbital locations of 72.7/129 degrees.
Do I need the 1000.4 dish I've been reading about?

The CSR I spoke with yesterday pretty much said that I was unable to get these channels because I was on the Eastern Arc. (I live Southeast of Boston, MA) It seems like they just wanted to avoid having to come down and install an extra dish.

And as I told you yesterday, several posts ago, that CSR is not knowledgeable. Eastern arc includes 61.5, 72.7 and 77. I'd try a different CSR and you should get set up correctly.

yup, just a case of a misinformed CSR, get another and tell them you need to be upgraded to a full EA setup with a 1000.4 dish so you can recieve all the new Dish HD channels.....

I just got off the phone with a CSR and said upfront that I needed the 1000.4 dish. We still ran a series of tests and jumped through hoops to establish that I wasn't getting any of the missing HD channels.
A technician is coming by tomorrow to install the new dish. Hopefully all will go well.

Thanks for the advice.

So what's the deal with this now...do you still have to wait for the letter to get a free EA transition?

I got one back in April, but it was a pain...no CSR would help, some were rude, including "escalations" specialists. After three emails to CEO address, they finally responded and gave it to me.

I have a three relatives/friends that are still on 110/119/61.5 and haven't gotten a letter yet. Two are purely MPEG-4 setups, so all they should need is the new dish.

If they call, can they get it for free without having to jump through a million hoops? Or do they have to wait for that letter still...whenever it might come?

In the meantime, I think I might swing the 110/119 dishes around to 72.7...at least they'll be getting all the channels then.
