So I was in my weekly tech meeting today and what do you know they FINALLY are releasing the Directv/TiVo box! It's pretty much an HR22 without the Directv DVR but with a TiVo instead. HOWEVER it will NOT be work with MRV but still functions like a normal receiver only with TiVo in it. Figured I'd share the news since this has been a long time coming and everybody always has a question on when it's coming and to kill all rumors

An HR22 really? Why would they not make equivalent or better than the HR24? No MRV will be a deal breaker for many people.

MRV is the killer in this since now upgrade work orders call for SWM now at no charge to bring the systems up for MRV programming but either way I'm with you iceberg! KEEP IT! As far the HR22 goes, I agree but I'm not sure what the purpose is for not making it with a 24 or launching a new receiver all together.

Well you figure D* and Tivo have been working on this since they announced this new receiver way back in 2008. Isn't that when the HR22 was released? If it was, then I'm not surprised that this new Directivo is based on the HR22.

But you would think all of these delays would be to bring it up to date with the current receivers. I still think they should find a way to have it support MRV.

Hey I agree with you on that, but who knows what was or is the real reason behind all of these delays. The way I see it is that by the time this thing ever gets to market, it'll probably be so outdated that nobody is going to want it and it'll be another slap in the face for Tivo for wasting all of their time and money (as well as D*'s time and money) on building this receiver.

It'll be vaporware until they actually release it. Tivo needs to get their act together. They still haven't realized that people don't want to buy retail DVR's. People will take whatever their cable/satellite company gives them and they should partner with every major cable company and have them hand out Tivo boxes to their customers.

Tivo does have MRV working in Beta but I do not know about the D* Tivo model. I disagree with people just using whatever the cable company has. My 3- 1 TB premiere units + unprotected FIOS are pure nirvana.There is simply nothing better as any HD programming I pay for can be transferred to PC and burned to BluRay disc. MRV can wait with FIOS being unprotected as file transfer between units is very fast.

Then why is Tivo barely selling any retail units? I know they are much better than the cable company box. But not a lot of people want to pay 3-4 hundred dollars upfront for a DVR.

Although I did have TiVo (Sat-T60, DSR600 and HR10-250) for many years I now have no interest in the new HD TiVo.
But, I suppose I could change my mind, once they get all of the bugs out of it.

1. DOWNGRADE my HR24 to an HR22? No thanks
2. Tivo "series 2" generation SD UI? That's so 2002. No thanks.
3. No MRV? No thanks.
4. What about VOD access? I have a hard time thinking that will be worked in there. DirecTV's VOD are custom screens.
5. The Tivo ipad app only works with Premieres, and we've heard Tivo's CEO say this is NOT a port of the Premier. Can you even program this DVR from a mobile app or website when away from home?

DirecTV is working on a new HD UI experience that adds a new TV app framework with new social connectors, Pandora, hardware acceleration for improved performance and full integration with MRV and the already awesome iPad app.

Tivo's too late.

I may upgrade one of my 6 receivers to the new DirecTivo just to give it a test drive. Probably the HR20.

We have a winner, you hit the nail on the head. Cable is now moving away from Analog, in to Digital. Cable Companies are pushing encrypted Digital Video down their pipes. This does not bode well for Standalone TIVO's. Cable Card is also more or less dead. 95 % percent of Satellite and Cable customers seek an integrated DVR bundle with their own provider. I can see an enthusiast market for TIVO, but will that be enough along with Tivo's reselling agreements, I'm thinking NO. TIVO as a brand is on its decline. TIVO will join dozens of others in the Digital Museum of the past.

Tivo is so yesterday. And recently they raised their monthly service charges, at a time when peeps are tossing the thing into the drink.

Sounds like it's slow and unfinished. No wonder DirecTV didn't opt for a port of the Premire's HD-GUI.

Anyone surprised that there has been a "leak" like this? I mean it was a question asked by the financial types at the quarterly earnings, yet nothing has been sent out as far as an official press release or even marketing email. D* must know which subscribers are still limping along on old TiVo units, wouldn't it at least make sense that some kind of marketing effort would happen?
I don't doubt that the OP did hear something in their employee meeting, but how long until something is "official "? Wasn't there some kind of "change / whoops / change back" issue on the web site a few months ago???

I'm with you on this one. Even though it was me that heard and seen the video on it I questioned it the whole time I was watching it along with a few other techs. They didn't give a release date only to say "we hope to be shipping these units to markets by the end of summer". I will however update this thread as soon as I hear an official release date. Once I get one on my van I'll be sure to update with pictures. It is capable of doing cinema plus and all the other stuff that a normal HR is capable of doing just not MRV. The only difference between an HR22 and the TiVo is the remote and it has the little TiVo guy in the top corner.
