World Series of Video Gaming (WSVG) Tournaments
The World Series of Video Games (WSVG) is the first video game competition circuit on multiple gaming platforms that culminates in final rounds at which true world champions emerge. The WSVG spans eight separate 3-5 day events that will be open to the public and will encompass 150,000 square feet of tournaments, exhibitions, concerts and other attractions, to appeal to a broad audience that includes hardcore and casual gamers. To create the ultimate circuit of competitive events, the WSVG has established partnerships with major competition leagues including CPL, Lanwar and Dreamhack, bringing together PC and Xbox game communities for the first time. The WSVG is working with these leagues to develop a set of unified rules and regulations, and to elevate competitive gaming as a sport and a profession. Sponsors currently include Intel and Xbox, with more to be announced soon.

Descriptions of QuakeCon
Often described as the “Woodstock of Gaming,” QuakeCon was created in August of 1996 by a group of friends on the IRC network’s EFnet who had a desire to meet in person. Less than 100 attendees gathered at the Best Western in Garland, Texas that first year to play and talk games and compete in the first QuakeCon tournament. id Software’s lead programmer John Carmack and several other id team members stopped by to chat with fans about DOOM, QUAKE, and the future of an up-and-coming id Software.
Going into its 11th year, QuakeCon remains true to its original mission as an event created by gamers, for gamers. Sponsored by id Software and other industry-leading software and hardware manufacturers, QuakeCon continues to be run by a dedicated group of 30 year-round volunteers and more than 200 on-site volunteers. More than 5,500 people from 52 countries around the world attended QuakeCon in 2005, and the event has expanded to include QUAKE¨, QUAKE II¨, QUAKE III Arena¨, QUAKE III: Team Arenaª, Return to Castle Wolfenstein¨, DOOM 3¨ and QUAKE 4¨.

Why are the mid-terms important?
At stake is control of Congress. Republicans have controlled both chambers since 1994, except for a brief time when Democrats held the Senate.
At first glance the Republicans face a discouraging political landscape with the war in Iraq going poorly, and talks of World War III. The economy is feeling the pressure of skyrocketing fuel costs, and there appears to be no plan to curb American's dependence on foreign oil. Political corruption has voters up in arms, as "flashpoint" issues such as stem cell research and same sex marriage have polarized factions within the same political partes.
There is a huge story to tell this November, and HDNews will bring it to you, all in high definition.
