What are your Favorite Thanksgiving Day Football Memories?

I know HD MM and Jimbo are Ohio sports fans(?) and Sandra, the anti Islanders fan but I keep forgetting who's what.

I'll help:

Me- Buffalo Bills/Sabres

BillD- All the Boston teams

SandraC- New York Rangers, Yankees, Knicks, J-E-T-S, Ohio State football

mccoy- LSU tigers football, Pittsburgh Steelers/Penguins/Pirates

anders- Carolina Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, all Tar Heel sports

it's a start.

I'm sure Paul Wozniak will help. I'm still not sure who is what fan on this site. I should know by now but I get confused.

Jimbo is actually a fan of all the Detroit teams plus the Steelers and Ohio St.

Glad to see the thread moved.

I hope HD, Sandra, mccoy, Paul Wozniak, Jimbo, etc. contribute. We all have seen our favorite teams play on Turkey Day once or twice in our lifetimes.

Sorry Sabres. I wish I had something introspective to say, but I have no significant football memories on past Turkey days. In my lifetime, the Browns played twice, losing both.

Nov. 23, 1989
DETROIT LIONS 13, Cleveland Browns 10

Nov. 25, 1982
DALLAS COWBOYS 31, Cleveland Browns 14

I'm Mr. Ohio

Cleveland Browns
Cleveland Indians
Cleveland Cavaliers
Ohio State University
Cleveland State University
Kent State University
Ohio University
Columbus Blue Jackets

It doesn't say "NFL" in the thread title. We all remember "our" high school football team playing "their" high school football game on Thanksgiving Day.

I think Al Bundy scored four touchdowns for Polk High on Thanksgiving Day.

I'l open a thread to clarify this.

Found a funny little article on ProQuest spoofing the first football game on Thanksgiving, from a 1987 Minneapolis Star-Tribune:

It's a little-known fact that the very first football game played on Thanksgiving was, coincidentally enough, on the very first Thanksgiving.
Yep, way back in 1621. A few hours before they lunched together for the first time, the Pilgrims and Indians challenged each other to a game of "futballe", a sport once banned in England because King Henry II felt that his subjects were neglecting their practice of archery. Gov. William Bradford hiked out the first ball - in this case, an inflated pig's bladder - and the game, sponsored by Mayflower Movers, Plymouth and a fledgling insurance company ("Get a piece of the real Rock") commenced.
With 23 players per side, the teams played a sloppy, savage game. The settlers clung to a narrow 16-13 lead, thanks to a touchdown pass by John Carver from a musket formation, but Hippopotawatha connected with Fleet Foot (White Moccasins) Running Bear in the end zone as time ran out. Final score: 20-16 for the home team. Redskins over the Patriots.
Then the winners and losers sat down to a feast of wild turkey and venison, licked their wounds and, refusing to help with the dishes, settled back to await the outcome of the Lions-Bears game that would be played 313 years later.

I'm a traditonalist at heart, so I NEVER want the NFL to take away Thanksgiving games from either the Lions or Cowboys (especially the Lions).
That even goes down to the start times: Detroit at 12:30ET and Dallas at 4:00ET. I hope the NFL has enough sense to NEVER change that!
:D:up
AGREED!

On Thanksgiving, it's tradition or was tradition, that Detroit and Dallas would host a game. What I would like to know, since we are near Thanksgiving, do you have any Thanksgiving Day memories that you remember. For ex., in 1993 with Leon Lett of the Cowboys touching the ball and the Dolphins lining up for a field goal and winning the game.
