Windows 10/11 Download

You're assuming that Microsoft does anything other than let time pass between the preview and the official release. I'm not sure that's warranted.
Yeah they are doing something. Waiting to see if the preview blows up.

Windows did another update today, took 2 reboots to install it all

Release Date:
3/31/2026
Version:
OS Builds 26200.8117 and 26100.8117
This out-of-band update for Windows 11, version 25H2 and 24H2 (KB5086672) is cumulative and includes updates from previous security and non-security releases.

Improvements

This out-of-band update contains quality improvements from KB5079473 (released March 10, 2026), KB5085516 (released March 21, 2026), and KB5079391 (released March 26, 2026 - no longer offered). • [Setup] Fixed: While installing the March 2026 Windows preview update (KB5079391), some devices running Windows 11, version 25H2 or 24H2, might encounter the following error:

Some update files are missing or have problems. We'll try to download the update again later. Error code: (0x80073712)
This out-of-band update is offered through Windows Update for devices running Windows 11 that have already installed KB5079473 or a later update. It is also available for manual download from the Microsoft Update Catalog.

Mostly security updates for .NET Framework.
This one was a pretty staggering update (it may be a record for its number of issues). Maybe the commitment to fixing things is more than just lip service.

Contrary to your comment, only six of 167 "fixes" were related to .NET. Methinks you are grossly understating the scope of the slop.

The count doesn't include the dozens of issues addressed earlier in the month by out-of-band updates.

Eight critical updates, including two zero-days in Office.

Many DoS opportunities targeted, along with a surprising number of elevations of privilege and security feature bypass vulnerabilities.

How can there be remote code execution vulnerabilities in the TCP/IP stack and IKE (related to VPN)?

Of critical interest to everyone who isn't certain about whether BitLocker is enabled on their Windows 11 system:

There is a similar warning to server admins regarding KB5082063 that causes the same problem on Windows Server 2025.

As is often the case, there's quite a bit more to it than that.

I also note that there should be an update that comes down soon to finish patching an incompletely patched security hole that exposes NTLM passwords. CISA (The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency) has given Microsoft until May 12th to address the vulnerability.

The slop train continues to roll down the track.

You're always quick to point out issues with Windows but it isn't something that only affects Windows.

Secure Boot Allowed Signature Database (DB) Update
This is the one that those using secure boot (pretty much all pre-fab computer owners) have been waiting for. It replaces the 2011 secure boot certs with the 2023 versions that will allow Windows computers with secure boot enabled to launch after next month.

There's surely nothing like waiting until the last second to distribute certs that are already years old.

There's surely nothing like giving someone else permission to stop you from using the computer you own.
