Yankee's Crying Poor?

Playoffs, and regular games.. Its still baseball.. To win the game you still play the same game called baseball.. If pitching wins the championship it also wins the preseason game...

Yes.....I am not debating what wins championships....I am debating WHAT GETS YOU THERE.

By the way, those Marlins team that you eluded to, they pitching would come around later in the season, those Marlins team HIT, played the field very well AND stole bases by the handful!

Oh MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Somebody else take this. I'm about to explode!

Really....?! So what happened to Oakland, Toronto and Arizona? How did THEY do in the playoffs?

Having a team in the top 10 in pitching obviously doesn't guarantee a playoff spot. However, pitching rank is more predictive of a team's chance of making the playoffs than is hitting rank. Can a good hitting/bad pitching team make the playoffs? Sure, but historically speaking that is the exception, not the rule.

Ok, lemme try and explain 1 more time......... (I'm trying to be patient here)

8 teams make the playoffs.

7 of the 8 were top 10 in pitching.

The only team to advance to the playoffs that was top 10 in hitting and fielding was Boston. Boston however was also in the top 10 in pitching. So one could argue it was their pitching that got them to the postseason.

Someone please explain to me how in the hell fielding and hitting more important than pitching in determining who makes it to the postseason?!

I'll answer myself: Without pitching it just doesn't happen!!!!!

Not a Mets fan, but no doubt if they had pitching (bullpen type) last year they would have been in the playoffs EASILY over the Phillies.

No.....I think even with bullpen, they had some major droughts hitting wise in the season that killed them to. Look at Carlos Delgado as a perfect example, if he did not see he was THIS CLOSE from being benched...and started his torrid hitting that got quite a bit consideration for MVP...they would have never been close. The teams starting pitching was smoke and mirror OTHER than Santana and Pelfry.

Explain Toronto and Oakland and Arizona....especially Arizona...seeing that they had great hitting at the beginning of the season...that tanked...and so did the playoff chances. Oakland and Toronto had very little hitting....compared to ALL those team that made the playoffs...

Really....?! So what happened to Oakland, Toronto and Arizona? How did THEY do in the playoffs?

Simple.......

It's really just a matter of numbers. Only 8 teams can make the playoffs. 7 of the 8 had a top 10 pitching squad.

Toronto was left out because Tampa won the AL East and Boston won the Wild Card. Both Tampa and Boston were in the top 10 in pitching.

As for Oakland, the Angels won that division and had a better pitching staff.

As for Arizona, the Dodgers won that division and had a better pitching staff.

Any more questions?

Wow....don't hurt your knees TOO MUCH comparing Johan Santana and Luis Castillo. Comparing a journey man infielder and Johan Santana is now exaggeration just a bit.

Here is where you called Castillo a journey man infielder. I never did.

Please give us your definition. ;)

I think Salsa's starting to deflect the "fielding/hitting gets teams to the playoffs not pitching" claim....

Grrrrrrrr. Man up Salsa. Your thoughts have been debunked.

It still is a combination of both offense & pitching that wins championships, over the course of an entire season (regular & post). I'll take a team with a strong pitching with an average offense over a high-powered offense and an average pitching anyday.

Not according to your numbers/post. Toronto had a better pitching staff than BOTH Tampa and Boston and Arizona had a better pitching staff than the Dodgers. BOTH Tampa AND Boston had BETTER HITTING than Toronto and the Dodgers had BETTER hitting than Arizona....

....this is ALL according to YOUR little post. Go check it yourself....;)

When he runs out of ammunition he starts calling you names, like 'Slick', and 'Baby sister'. Then he starts mentioning your knees for some reason.

8 teams make the playoffs. 7 of them finished in the top 10 in pitching. The only team to make it to the playoffs who was not in the top 10........... The Chicago White Sox who finished 11th by a virtue of .06th of an ERA percentage point!!!!!!!

Again, please tell me why you think hitting and fielding get team to the playoffs over pitching? When you commit to one side of an argument you really show your stubbornness to not accept the facts!

Damn - nothing is an absolute. Pitching is dominant, just look at how many games the top ones win, no matter what team they pitch for. But over the course of a 162 game schedule, obviously a team needs offense and defense as well.

Additionally, baseball is far from balanced. Every division is different, and the balance of power within the divisions is WAY different.

So, a team with average pitching could win with superior offense and defense. A team with superior pitcing can win with average offense, and so on.

But since I'm a Yankee fan, I expect them to win the World Series EVERY YEAR (not really) - what would I know?
