Yankee's Crying Poor?

:haha:haha Seriously, I think it's great how you guys/gals go back and forth!

Like I said before in another thread, it doesn't matter if I agree or disagree on a certain topic, everyone seems very knowledgeable in here! :) :up

Except that Paul Wozniak guy. He don't know sh*t from shinola!

I said I wasn't offended. What part of that didn't you understand?

And since when being called "little sister" is name calling....especially when YOU ARE the youngest of 6 siblings with the others being brothers....?

I mean I can go on and on if you like....really....but if you think I am planning on tripping over my feet like some do here because you are a former DBS whatever member or because you are a female....you are sadly mistaken.

This is not an old boys network...everyone is treated the same...give out sh**, get it right back. Make snide remarks...you get them right back...come in with an attitude...you will get it right back. I know, I went through it when I initially got here.

So if you like, put me on ignore....report me...makes no difference to me. But I will not back down.

I don't what's worse, Salsa's reading comprehension or his stubbornness? Maybe the two are related? ;)

I have great reading comprehesion.....the trouble is, you have that confused with wanting me to agree with you!! ;) I ma very pighead about what I BELIEVE, but I can always be convinced to see both sides of things.:up

Agreeing with the facts doesn't make you less of a man. It makes you right. And you my friend remain VERY wrong.

Who asked for special treatment???

You are kidding me right...??! You compare Mussina's best season to A.Rod's best season and Mussina is not even the his zipcode. There is no debate there.

I don't know, it kind of feels like comparing apples to oranges. If Mussina wins 20 and A-Rod is constantly hitting into double plays in big spots, it's difficult to make a case for A-Rod. But during A-Rod's MVP season he was, of course, pretty valuable.

Bottom line is, I think the Yankees did the right thing this year going after the best pitchers, and not the best hitters. You can argue Sabathia and Burnett aren't worth the money, but hey, Brandon Webb wasn't available. They did secure the best and second/third best starters on the market.

If they would have signed the best hitter available, Texeira (Manny falls into his own category), and left the pitching staff as is....that would be ugly.

Going back to my original point in this thread....I just think the Yankees ALWAYS make a signing EVERY year that is way beyond the norm and just throws the salary scale even more off than it already is. Look, here is NO DOUBT Sabathia is a good pitcher in the last 2 years....prior to that, he was a decent pitcher.

You don't think that his great numbers in Milwaukee had something to do with the fact that very few had seen him in the NL?

I mean really.. 1 1/2 good seasons and suddenly he is making the most ever by a pitcher?

Step out of being a Yankee fan and tell me if that that signing makes any sense....

It makes sense because he was the best pitcher available. A year from now someone else will be the best pitcher available, and perhaps become the highest paid pitcher. And yes, it may be the Yankees paying that pitcher.

But don't forget, some of the worst free agent pitcher contracts were not given out by the Yankees. Here are some of the biggest busts (present company excluded) ;)

Carl Pavano turned out to be a bad deal for the Yankees, but not as bad as Barry Zito (Giants), Mike Hampton (Rockies), and Kevin Brown (Dodgers). Of course the Yankees traded for Brown's bad contract, but that's another story.

The thing about the Yankees is, they can afford to make mistakes. The Giants blow a wad of cash on Zito, and they can't afford to pay Sabathia, even though he apparently wanted to pitch there. The Red Sox and Mets also can afford to make mistakes, when most teams cannot.

IIRC, that's basically how the dominant Yankee teams of the late 90's were built; great pitching (Clemens, Pettitte, Wells, Hernandez, Mendoza, Rivera, etc.) and surrounding them with solid position and role players (Jeter, Brosius, Tino, etc.)....
