Pistons / Celtics

I agree, Celtics need to break out of this failure to win road games.. If they can, this will go very well. If not, it's going to be bad.

I really felt that Celtics didn't deserve to win the last series because of this. I'm a Celtics fan, but I'm also a realist and know that you need to play the game to win, that includes road games.

BTW, what happened to Ray "he used to have game" Allen?

He's been a complete bust so far in the playoffs. 3 for 10 last night and on several occasions, he went out of his way to pass the ball when he was WIDE open! Clearly there is something going on between the ears and he is lacking confidence in his abilities.....

The referees STOLE the game for Detroit.

They got lucky the refs blew all those fouls and gave them all those free throws!

Detroit is SOOOO LUCKY the referees not only failed to call fouls they committed, but gave them so many free throws!

Word to Piston fans:

be thankful the refs gave you all those free-throws and ignored all those fouls.

They clearly were aided tonight, IMO.

Jimbo, Rob, jerrya72, word of advice:

Be thankful the refs were on the Pistons side tonight.

All that whistle-swallowing plus so many free throws equals an undeserved win.

P.S. Flip Saunders, to me, is the NBA's version of Barry Switzer- a guy who has a ton of wins because he is fortunate to have such a strong team.

Switzer basically just stood there and watched the Cowboys win- just like Saunders in Detroit.

So much for the 'rested Pistons.'

More like rust.

Mr. Big Shot was NOT his usual self- coming back to play despite injury is proving to be a not-so-good decision on the boxscore (see Kimo Timomen)

Flip Saunders is now 0-10 on the road in the East Finals.

We say the Celtics don't do well on the road, but neither does Coach Saunders.

Well the RUST has been dissolved now and Mr. Billips looked much better, still nagging injury scored 19 pts, you can be happy he's not 100 %.

As for Flip Saunders, well.. he's no longer 0 for on the road .....

Happy now.

fwiw, I think the previous coaches Detroit had were better than Flip.

Home court advantage - Detroit. As I said in the opening post, Boston would lose at home, but despair Beantowners, Detroit will lose one at home too, I'm hoping I'm wrong, but they're history precedes them. Pressure now is on Boston to win on the road. A healthy Billups, could be what determines who wins this series. He sure made a difference yesterday.

It was great to win tonight, but something tells me the Celtics will have to win another game in Auburn Hills before this is over.

I wonder who is going to show up to play and who is going to stay home the next game. Detroit usually plays well with their backs up against the wall, but who knows. This may turn out to be one of the strangest series ever.

IIRC, the 1981 series between Houston and San Antonio went seven games, and the road team won EVERY game. That was the year every series in the Western Conference was won by the lower seed. The 40-42 Rockets beat the 40-42 Kansas City Kings in the Western Conference finals.

EDIT: I looked it up and I was mistaken. Five out of seven were won by the road team. San Antonio won game 2 at home and Houston won game 3 at home. Incredibily, games 4, 5, 6, and 7 were all won by the road team.

On Rip Hamilton Cheating.

Yes and I believe since most people on this board have a displeasure with cheaters he should be castrated.

He may be a cheater, but thats who they are the rotten, cowardly way they do things up there.

Whether it was Laimbeer, Rodman, Isiah, John Long, Mahorn, Rasheed Wallace, Rip Hamilton wow and thats just off the top of my head they all flopped and whined.

Maybe its something in the water in, as Mason says, the D.

In a one off, I know Laimbeer coached a womans team at some point, do you think his cycle started to sync up with his players?

Celts in 5, Good Night D........troit..ahhh that mason soooo witty.

You just hit the nail on the head as to why America will tune out if the Spurs and Pistons come back and win their respective series.
