W5 fixed system

Great job! I'm interested in the w5 package in the near future, but I'm assuming that if I want to be able to watch different channels on 2 different tv's, so the wife can watch her stuff, while I watch mine, that I'd need 2 dsr-410 units and pay for programming on each. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Even if it's not possible, I'm still thinking that it's a better option than cable or pizza.

That's how it works you would need two 410's and pay two subs. As far as the LNBF goes Im not sure about that maybe Ice can answer that as far as being able to change polarity from two receivers. I think it may have to be a dual LNBF.

All in all the W5 packages are good and the picture quality is good. W5 is nice and hot so the Fortec 6 foot dish does it well. Just follow my tweaking steps to gain every last drop and you'll be good to go. :)

Great info! I'm hoping to get my neighbor switched. He's getting tired of the bill from the pizza pan people. The 410 could save him some money. It's not much per month, it would save him maybe like $10 - $15 .. .. but over the course of a year, that really adds up.
Let's go C-band! yea!

we need to get Sat guys bumper stickers. I cant think of the company that had them, but the ones that say something like:
"save money now, ask me how"
we can have stickers like:
"dump the cable company now; ask me how"
(then a pic of a pizza pan dish next to a BUD) "Dish size envy? 4dtv dish enhancement" (like a viagra ad)

Get him switched ASAP :) We need to advertise. I wonder if we do that and help sell 410's for Skyvision would we be able to get a rake off on our own programming ?

Thanks Tvropro, I've got until August when my cable contract is up, but will be considering it in the very near future. I really enjoyed reading about the progress of your install.

Excellent work TVRO :up

I was looking forward to the pics of the base. Good job. WE can use this as a guide for others wanting to do similar installs.

Here is the original base plans my neighbor made. I added 2 more 2x8's from the original plans shown here.

Feel free to build and enjoy.

Note: The center platform pitch may have to be adjusted for your install. This roof was pitched for water drain off and I wanted the platform plum so we compensated for the roof pitch.

It was fun. Now I have to put a new tv antenna and coax up for him for his OTA locals. I just ordered a Winegard today but it's on back order to the 22nd. His 38 year old tv antenna isn't cutting it. When Im done he will have perfect OTA and satellite at every tv in his house. Just like my house is set up :D His own cable system so to speak :)

A couple more pictures

Here's 2 more pictures a full size dish & base and a shot from the ground.

you would need a dual output LNB

SatelliteAV probably has some left dual LNB's from the special buy we had. Check their website.
http://satelliteav.com/p/shop/?ws_pid=689&ws_cat=433

If you are thinking about it, I'd grab the dual LNB right away. There isnt many left and it took a LONG time for them to get the LNB"s in stock. It wasnt something they carried normally

I stickied the thread so folks can see how it can be done and get ideas :)

Maybe we can bring more to the "good side"

Thanks Ice :) Were trying to get more & more. I was talking to my client on the phone today and he was inquiring about getting more channels that W5 don't offer. I told him we would have to make his bud movable and possible get a 922. So two days with C band and he's planning for the future already. I think he's getting the satellite bug :D :up :up

Thanks Iceberg for the dual output lnb info. I didn't order one on the special order. I probably won't subscribe 2 boxes, but you're right, these might not be available much longer. I'll check into it.

Looking at the pictures I have to question is the dish secure enough if a bad storm blows through? A little extra support tieing the dish to the platform and then some cables tieing the platform to the roof will prevent the dish being blown off the roof in a violent storm.

Larry
If those brackets are bolted down it will hold. When I had my 6 footer on the table and a strong wind flipped the dish AND the table  and it was bolted with long screws, washers & nuts

I drilled holes on the platform and put stainless steel nuts & bolts through the clamps & holes. The base can support a 10 foot dish easy, I even have the 4x4's anchored in the back to his roof sill with lag bolts. That puppy ain't going anywhere :D

Glad to hear that. Those bricks did not look sufficient to hold it in place. With the lags it will not go anywhere.

You can put as many bricks or cinder blocks as you want on it. The mount itself is heavy, it took 2 people to rock n slide it about a foot to get it in position so I could lag bolt the 4x4's. Even without any blocks it would be pretty hard to move by the wind. May need a twister :D

I steal Ice's idea to bolt my foot on an unused old table, and it's been there stable for a month now...but windy season is not here yet...cross my fingers:cool:...
But my table is against the tree, so it won't flipped and hit the ground like Ice's pool 6ft:D

I'm also interested into W5, can Canadian sub it?

Hey Ice, maybe you should start selling patio tables with 6 foot dishes attached :D
