For me, I will be sticking with AT&T right now. I still am in my contract from the iPhone 4. I am seriously wondering when the iPhone comes out will it be available on both networks right away. If Verizon doesn't get it until January then I will most likely stay with AT&T. Also I really like the ability to switch to a new iPhone every year with AT&T for the normal upgrade fee. Will this also happen with Verizon? In reality the only way Verizon will be a option is if the iPhone 5 is just a small speed bump and not worth the upgrade from the iPhone 4. This would put the iPhone 6 release about the time my contract expires.

It would also take a huge improvement in the music player before I would consider moving back. This is the one piece I use most and where the iPhone shines. Also it would be hard to move as I would then lose all of the apps that have been purchased. :( I would really like to see some of the major companies offer the app for both phones on a pay once use on both platforms.

JAG72- There are more and more rumors and indications from others that iphone 5 will support LTE which will be in full Verizon roll-out in 35 announced areas in the US by this summer. I just posted another indicator this morning that China Mobile claimed they reached an agreement with Apple that the next iphone will fully support TDCDMA and LTE. As for what Verizon does on they traditional upgrade program, it is "New every 2" which is known to most you get to upgrade to a new phone for the new customer subsidy price every 2 years. However, not known to most is that if you want to upgrade after 12 months, you can for a $20 charge on top of the subsidy price. This offer may not be valid in all locations YMMV.

Personally, I will qualify for the iphone5 about July but I have no intention of getting one even if it is LTE. My plan is to buy the Mifi device in LTE which I'm not elgible for in new every 2 but the speed will be worth the price. Then apply my unlimited grandfathered number to the myfi card. In the Fall, I may get the iphone 5 for my wife. Personally, however, my crystal ball tells me I will be on an Android phone next and my wife on the iphone.

But where is the info that says that Verizon will have the iPhone 5 this summer and not next January? This is the piece that I am looking for. Just because Verizon will have LTE and the phone will support it does not mean it will be available day one on their network.

Apple releases like clock work. iphone versions have historically been released in June. Apple has never released the iphone in January. Investors actually bank on this. Doesn't matter because nothing with it will happen officially until May show ( was it also in June? ) So all this stuff is just rumor / speculation by Satelliteguys standards until then. :) New distributors, like the foreign carriers and Verizon happen when they are contract ready so there is no calendar history for that. That's why Verizon iphone4 with CDMA happened in Feb 2011.

I know they release in June. My original question was if AT&T would get the new iPhone in June and Verizon in January? I have heard this as a rumor and I am trying to find additional information. This would give AT&T a 6 month exclusive on the iPhone.

Another reason I like the iPhone is the simple fact that there is no better smart phone for integration into the technology I use as a teacher: http://www.satelliteguys.us/phone-zone/144410-what-your-favorite-iphone-app-10.html#post2443774

I am also starting to use my iPad for many of these same features

Inquiring minds want to know - by using VNC technology with it, and controlling your classroom pc, I am guessing you are in the same classroom all day, and it truly is YOUR computer, so you are easily able to set up VNC software on the PC to interact with the ipad? As a college prof, I am in different classrooms all the time, and while I can customize my Windows user space, I don't have admin control of the classroom machine to be able to accomplish that. But if I could, it would be very nice.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, just interested in the question - as its one of those things I have been wanting to do; to find ways to use tablets as an educational tool.

Haven't heard any rumor like that. I, also don't think that suspicion has any logic for Apple.

It is actually pretty simple. I have it set up on more than one computer. You simply save the IP addresses of each computer on your device and log into that particular IP address at the time. This will allow you to control the PC through your device. No admin access needed on your PC

To control your device and mirror it to your PC, you do have to download VNC server software. This is where you will have to have administrator access

They claim it works through 3G, but I have yet to be able to make it do so. I have only been able to share if they are both using the same network.

Yes, there are several other vnc clients for android.

Thanks for the info on how you do that. I am experimenting with Pocket Cloud for Android right now.

I have Verizon now and don't want any stinking iPhone.

I have a Crapberry now (have had one for years) and have been really disappointed with how they have kept up with he market.

That being said I am eligible for an upgrade in 2-3 weeks and originally planned on the droid X as I can not wait to get rid of this pos crapberry.
However, I think I might hold out for the 4g droid bionic.

I wanted to wait for at least 50 responses before commenting.

It is surprising to me to see the results-

* At this time, one might conclude that there won't be a serious exodus from ATT to Verizon in the next month.
* Also, those at Verizon aren't that excited about having access to the iphone.
* Android has become a real hot alternative OS to iphone / iOS.

Now, it will be interesting to see how this group maintains this spread as the iphone actually does become available during February and later when the iphone5 comes out. I suspect Verizon will cut back it's heavy Android ad campaign, as it budget some of its ad money to promote the iphone on Verizon.

It will also be interesting to see how the general public embraces the iphone on Verizon service too. I have always maintained that this group generally does not favor Apple way and favors the open access and hardware variety of the Android phones. But I also think the general public work with a different mindset, thinking of their smartphone as just a phone with internet access and converged ipod, camera, and games. This is why iphone became so popular among non-techies from the beginning as it did this stuff so well. Today, Android phones does this well too but has a several year late start.

Using my wife as my reference on Blackberry- She likes hers for what it does well and doesn't need anything else, nor cares. She needs her calendar and her e-mail and phone. For that it works perfectly. Not that she has a choice because it is a company owned phone but other than the high security hoops she is required to jump through, she likes it.
I have always maintained that as a device for business, the Blackberry ain't that bad. I wouldn't want one but for a business appliance, it does work well.

With my current phone with verizon I cant upgrade untill November, I am thinking that the Iphone 5 will be out then?? seeing that it would be a bit crazy to pay the $600.00 they are asking for if you want to leave your current verizon phone contract if you are not elgible to upgrade yet
