How much bandwidth speed does one really need to watch HD w/o buffering?

About 3.4Mbps for the best quality. You can get away with 2.5Mbps but the PQ begins to suffer. 1.5Mbps will give you reasonable SD quality.

Thanks, I knew I had read it but couldn't find it again searching. My brother is wanting to do it and he asked. So was trying to find the answer.

Unfortunately, the very best I can do is about 600Kbps (and there are no other alternatives, before someone asks). Can someone answer this question:

Can I stream to the 722K the entire desired program at, say, 3AM and then watch it later? Or can I only stream and buffer myself to death, a-la ROKU?

You can select a movie, then elect to "Watch Later"

The movie will download in the background while you watch TV/the TV is off, and you can go to my rentals to start playing it when you're ready (my rentals is in the "all movies" menu)

Excellent. So it will download the entire program to the HDD (I could ask for a program before I go to bed or something) so that I can watch it unbuffered later. Very good. Thanks, Matt!

Try a FREE rental first, because my 722k erases my rentals overnight, as do many others. Dish is susposedly working on a fix, but we all know how slow they are.

Mine does the overnight erasure as well.
