1.2m Dish Mover?

Well, after trading messages on fleabay with Satellites-Gallore about their dish motor I'm really confused. Tek2000 site spec sheet says that motor is good for 40lbs while the person who responded to my question on this from Satellites_Gallore says that his dish motor (exactly the same as the Tek2000 listed above) is only good for 25lbs and has no warranty if it's used on a 1.2m dish????? :wtf And they told me they sold Tek2000 stuff??

And what is it with these Canadian sellers, ie, just like Powersurge denying he's Doc Sat, Satellites-Gallore refuses to admit he's Tek2000??? :wtfagain!

Then I go to Satellite AV and look for a dish motor and there is none on their site?? Hypermeggasat shows that his DG240 is out of stock?? Guys up the page state that the Staub 150, SG 2100 and 6100s seem to have problems. DMS doesn't even list one on their site??

Dunno! This is getting just a bit too complicated and I'm about ready to just forget the whole deal, ie, dish motors sold out and vendors that don't know what the hell they are selling??

What I'm using now seems to do most everything I want and it's already paid for and up and running??? Maybe I need to step back and ask myself just why I'm doing this before I go any further.

Thanks all for your comments and suggestions. I do appreciate it!

To be honest, it seems everyone i've purchased from within Canada seems a bit sketchy. Had issues with Sadoun selling products that are not in stock and then sending me out an inferior unit. When i called him on it, he did make good. Buyer beware. I've ordered a lot from overseas. TitaniumSatellite and his service is excellent. I only wish he carried more stuff. We could use more good guys out there selling to the FTA community. Thanks to the good people here, I have saved myself some horrors, but have also had a few, but, i always share them here...

The only one I can guarantee will work and handle the weight and wind load for a composite 1.2m dish, is a polar mount with a linear actuator. It's not that hard to adapt an off-set dish to one. It basically consists of using some angle-iron the TILT the top of the dish down by the offset degrees. It'll look a little goofy to an average guy, but works well. A polar mount from an old 6 foot prime focus dish is perfect for this.

Find one, it's your best bet.

You want the dish so it looks like it points more towards the Horizon.

In other words, do not just bolt a polar mount flat to the back of an offset dish, because that won't allow it to actually point at satellites since the offset would have it looking 22~ degrees (whatever its offset angle is) or more "above" the satellite arc.

I sympathize with Lone Gunman and iBoston as a consumer of FTA equipment. There are good reliable vendors like Hypermegasat and Titanium. Never had a problem with Sadoun, and did order from Skyvision a few times with no problems. But when you have venture beyond those familiar names by necessity then a feeling of uneasiness sets in as to what product you are actually getting, is it truly made by the manufacturer they claim, has it been relabeled by the vendor or some middleman? With 1.2m offset dishes I found this to be the case, ended up confused and just decided to make one out of an existing dish, whether it works or not at least I know where it was made hi hi. And it can use my existing H-H motor. Hey I wanted to spend some money but the product was just not out there, or the folks selling the product (1.2m dish) didn't make it easy enough for the consumer to buy it.

Problem. I have a Stab HH120, and am getting quite a bit of back/forth play on it. It's less than a year old. I hope i don't continue to get more play, otherwise this thing will be useless in another year or two.

Have you by chance looked to see if there is a backlash adjustment in that HH120 to remove the slack? I've read where some others have had some motors that did that and they were able to adjust the slack out of those. Some close up photos of that HH120 housing might provide a clue as to whether this can be done or not.

Just an interesting note here, looked at an SG6100 on fleabay then went to Tek2000 site and looked at that HH motor they have pictured there and they both look the same, ie, the one at Tek2000 looks like an SG6100 only BLACK?

So I contacted Tek2000 on their website with questions about the dish weight their motor will handle but probably won't hear back from them until next week.

IF the info on teks site is correct the model# XH240 is an XCRUISER model motor. Specs say 1.2m max & 40lbs weight. did some googling and found xcruiser was a S Korean brand bought by Unicom.

Been looking at these and was wondering if there is a "preferred" one out there with a decent price for a 1.2m dish? What I've seen available are:

DG240

Stab HH90 (90cm only)

SG6100

SG6000

SG2100

So which one do I want and who has it for sale at the best price?

Thanks

PS, yeah I tried to use the forum search but didn't get what I was looking for.
This is a cool site check it out www.satellitesuperstore.com,it might help

Hummm, well, yeah I probably could if I was still working my old job. I only have a Bridgeport mill in my shop here at home so I'm kinda limited on what I can do now. Material is another problem as the steel companies won't sell you pieces. You got to buy 20ft sticks of metal and I can't justify that expense.

There is a small machine shop not far from me that will cut some stuff and sell it by the foot but they have a limited amount of stock to choose from.

Ennywho, here it is almost a week later and Tek2000 hasn't replied to the question I sent them last weekend regarding that dish motor they have on their website. I guess they just don't care if they sell stuff or not, hey! That's a shame too as that turn key race car and trailer I sold a couple of weeks back put a sizable chunk of cash in my savings!!

Interesting note here. I sent DMSI an Email back a week or so ago asking about the SG6000/6100 dish movers that are, or were being sold on fleabay. What I was wanting to know was if these were the "re-tooled" ones or just more of the old ones with the same old problems?

Well, I never did get an answer from them, BUT, I have noticed that those dish motors are missing from fleabay now? Just wondering if DMSI has called them back in because of the problems they had that those vendors might not have been aware of?
