2017-18 NCAA Football Thread

The way I see it, the Iowa game was a typical TRAP game ...
Trap or not, still lost, and lost big, with no major injuries to blame.

As bad an excuse as blaming the big loss to Florida because the game was in the Southwest, even though Florida is from the Southeast.

And btw, Iowa wasn't the only loss Ohio St. has. Alabama only having a single loss is why they'll get in over Ohio St. & USCw.

btw, guess which conferences were the biggest opponents of a playoff and fought for no more than a final 4 instead of the 8 team playoff the SEC and ACC pushed for.

hint, both of them got shut out of the playoff this year. ;)

Don't ya love irony. :D

No injuries ?

The 2 linebackers that started in that game, same ones that played against Oklahoma are no longer starting for them.
A healthy Mike Weber was just getting back in shape, he hadn't played all year due to injuries.

It's the Iowa loss that looks bad, and what kept them out.
Yes, so a loss THIS year, meant more than beating MAJOR teams thruout the year.

Its easy, the committee listened to Saban last night.

So, go out and schedule more cupcakes and you get in because you have the wins vs Big wins.

Regardless guys ...
The committee will put in who ever they want as long as there are teams close.
Its always been that way and will continue.

This is gonna be a boring playoff ....

Clemson should take care of Bama (possibly easily if they don't take thier foot off the gas) .

Oklahoma, will beat Georgia, provided Mayfield's head can fit in the stadium by then.

Hers hoping Clemson BLOWS out Oklahoma.

It did last year too. Hell Ohio State got in then over a team that beat them head to head and won the conf mainly because if that 2nd loss that Penn State had against Pitt.
Thats exactly my point ...
Whoever they feel they would like to see, will play ...
The computers did the same thing.

At least we have a playoff, instead of just one game.

Fwiw, I have always said 8 (or even 10 ) teams should be in the playoff.

Now, would they please move on to the Rest of the games so we can see who the teams will play in the bowl games and what days ...
I would like to be able to make my vacation plans quickly.

Committee chairman gave the reasons as to why Alabama instead of Ohio State. Came down to 1 loss vs 2 loss, especially the one to Iowa.

Sounds a lot like last year in the excuses for Ohio State instead of Penn State.

The biggest question though, will Alabama be able to score a point against Clempson? ;)

It got leaked that Auburn is #7, but that doesn't matter.

But as for Ohio State, they will be going to the Orange Bowl against Miami.
Orange Bowl gets the highest ACC team not in play off, along with the highest ranked team from SEC, Big Ten, or Notre Dame. Since that team is Ohio State, then it's Miami vs. Ohio State in the Orange Bowl.

The Committee will then seed the Fiesta, Peach, and Cotton Bowls with the highest group of five team and the next 5 ranked teams. There are no real rules based one which of those teams go where in those bowls, as only the Orange, Sugar, and Rose have conference tie-ins.

I have seen multiple reports (since I started looking a little bit ago) that Ohio State is going to the Fiesta and playing USC.

Officially, they don't get announced till 2 or 3 pm., from what I read.

Just found this from the Cleveland.com site

Here's what's not going to happen: Ohio State will not go to the Orange Bowl. The bowl selection guidelines prohibit the Orange Bowl from taking the Big Ten Champion if that team is left out of the playoff. So expect No. 6 Wisconsin to go to Miami.

The playoff bowls are the Sugar Bowl (No. 1 Clemson vs. No. 4 Alabama); and the Rose Bowl (No. 2 Oklahoma vs. No. 3 Georgia).

So that leaves the Fiesta Bowl (Phoenix), Cotton Bowl (Dallas) and Peach Bowl (Atlanta) for the Buckeyes.

Ok, thanks, didn't know about that caveat.

If bama is healthy, the blowout could easily go the other way. They have not been when most have been watching down the stretch.

Georgia and Oklahoma match up on opposite sides. Should be a good offense vs defense game.

Personally I think this is the best field since they've done it.
