For a Hopper Duo? I could almost see the need for a node, just to add a Joey, but a hub, or any hybrid equipment, kind of seems like overkill. Also, mmc-dsm said that he would only be using it for one TV, so I doubt that even a node would be needed, although I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong about that.
Hybrid shouldn’t be a requirement but a Dish Pro Plus (DPP) upgrade would be needed.
Good point. With Dish Pro (non-plus) it would probably only operate as a single-tuner, just like Wally.
I understand not activating non MPEG4 8psk equipment.
But what is the reasoning no longer activating VIP equipment like the 222 and 612 for example?
Is it because of piracy or does the Kangaroo crap Handel bandwidth more efficiently ?

Well, guess what? Modern ViP receivers are not being updated anymore, so how much maintenance is there? It's all more about maintenance of the fee base, IMO.
The only other thing I can think of is getting users into a situation where their equipment can support modern technologies, like HEVC.
Can a retailer answer this... they are not stopping support of VIP equipment, they are just not activating any new leased equipment for new customers. Will they allow purchased VIP receivers to be turned on and off like they did the 922?
According to DISH they're getting rid of the 222's and 722's to provide High Definition to every TV.
I'd love to know how many ViP receivers are out there. I love mine, it's simple, stable and does everything I need.
All the details are very vague so far. We recently found out that we'll still be able to use 211K's for a while longer so I'm happy about that.
This sounds like the 211’s are not going anywhere anytime soon.
They are the idiots who started the problem to begin with by offering this crazy type setup to begin with.
I agree they where nice when they first came out because you could save the $5 additional Tv fee. But after they raised the receiver fees, to make up for the secondary television they should have been discontinued back then.
I personally never liked duo receivers like the 322/222/722
#1 it was confusing as hell for customers to try to explain how this worked over the phone.
#2 many customers thought they where getting 2 DVR’s in the case of a 722. Can’t tell you how many issues this created as customers would then demand we bring them another DVR. Then when we did install a 612 for example it was a fight over the additional monthly fees.
#3 what a nightmare to install. In the early days we had to run 2 wires to the Tv, with a 3rd possibly to feed tv2. Then you had the phone line that needed to be hooked up to avoid the Tv2 fee.
Things got better with dishpro plus technology, but still crappy trying to run Tv2 on analog SD.
Too bad there was copyright issues with HD in the clear. Would have been awesome for an HD modulator like what they had with the model 5000
I'd be happy with a decent widescreen SD signal on TV2, like that of a DVD player.
