The OFFICIAL DISH / HBO Thread

Back when all the talk here started about the $10 HBO "for life" promotion, Dish did not immediately release any kind of statement to disavow that, or dissuade us of that belief, either. So, if nothing else, Dish was certainly willing to take advantage of customers' perception that the $10 HBO deal was "for life." DIRT was a lot more active here in those days. So, if Dish wanted us to know that the promotion was not "for life" don't you think they could have instructed DIRT to post a carefully-worded reply to any thread about the $10 HBO "for life" promotion, to correct the misinformation? For that matter, how many members here signed up for that promotion through DIRT? Did any DIRT member ever say anything in any of those private conversations to correct the perception that the deal was "for life"?
I was offered the HBO for life promo by customer loyalty or retention back then. They gave it to me on two of my accounts and they told me that it was as long as I stayed with DISH. For $10.00 a month I jumped on it . I don’t expect them to ever offer this again , even if they do get HBO back on DISH, which at this time it looks like it will never make a return.

Queue Mike to say that Dish should offer those that had thenpromotion the $10 price tag again if it returns... never a credit not willing to exploit.
Why does the fact that I am able to get credits off and other freebies from DISH bother you so much? I mean I’ve been a customer for 22 years now and have three accounts in my name and I bought all my own equipment ,dishes and labs as well as installed them at all three locations. Shouldn’t I be offered something to stay after all these years? I mean I could of easily went with any other streaming service and still might if the credits ever stop coming in. I consider this a wise decision to barter over the price I pay and it has saved me a lot on programming over the years.

And you have been preaching the same thing for the last 15 years.... yada yada yada.... ;)

I'm not going to say I'm nobler than Mike...I've been with Dish for 20 years and I also look for promos and when they're available (usually on premium channels), I grab them. Why shouldn't I? I've been a loyal customer, and at times when there were no promos available, I've paid up to $150/month. Presently, with an about-to-expire Starz promo and HBO/Cinemax not available, my bill is $122/month. It'll expire in about 2.5 weeks and my monthly bill will go up another $5/month. Will I seek another promo? Dang straight I will...

My last Dish bill was $128.20.

Seeing so much on YouTube lately makes me wonder. But we’ll keep Dish as is, for the channels we want, because we can afford the choice. May it always be thus.

Quoting the post to which you were replying might have been nice. Otherwise, it looks like you were responding to my post directly above yours. I did not see any of that in my post, and it does not look like my post has been edited, either.

My mistake. I usually reply to a individual post. This thread as long as it is I wasn’t sure how many pages I’d have to go back. So does the bottom page reply box always reply to last post?

No problem. My post was not directed at you, but at msmith198025. And, to answer your post, I also thought that the jerkiness might be due to an increase in the number of users streaming that feed at that time, but I had not mentioned anything about that theory earlier in this thread, and neither did anyone else as far as I know. So, thanks for pointing that out. :)

I marked it on my Calendar so I remember to reinstate my HBO Now to watch it, plus Real Time is back on, next Friday
Real Time, True Detective are my favorite HBO shows. I use Amazon HBO which is $15.00 a month. Only use Dish because I live about 6 miles out of town, I am planning to move into town in a location that provides great Internet Service and buy only Channels I actually watch.

I gave up on Dish getting HBO back, so like you I get it streaming. Still $15,. but with the Fire Stick I also get it live streaming.
Yes, this is starting to look exactly like the Univision dispute. On the "Info" channels (301 and 311) there is no longer a propaganda video explaining Dish's side of the dispute, just a plain slate. Dish did the exact same thing to the Univision info channels, before removing those channels completely and basically announcing that Univision is never coming back.

I think you are right. ATT wants their Direct TV to have HBO and Dish to not have it.
Since ATT owns it I also doubt it ever coming back.

You’ll pay three times for those channels. Once for Internet service, once for the channel subscription and once by sitting thru commercials.

Welcome Aboard!

Pay tv services are losing subs. Even channel owners and content providers are feeling increased pressure. I feel like HBO and cinemax are relics of the big cable boom of the 1980s.
The early stages of terminal illness to providers began with the death of c band. Now cable and small dish are headed the same way. Every year losing subs. So many free apps with free movies you can get on old outdated HBO and cinemax.
Let them die.

True Detective season 3 is very good. Worth the HBO sub on its own.

I disagree about HBO. Their original programming is what makes it compelling, and it can't be replaced by free movies elsewhere.

I agree with that. However HBO can be replaced from watching on any pay TV service with their standalone online service. Those with poor or no internet would be affected others don't have to be.

HBO on FB stated Dish is the problem but with backlash from several responses saying HBO is greedy
