Hello All, New here.. what all do I need to get started. Does cband still offer 4DTV? My uncle use to have one it wont power on though. Any ideas whats wrong ? Not trying to sound dumb. Just new to this interesting hobby!

4DTV has been dead since, I believe either 2013 or 2011. Can’t remember which. For its last few years, you could get nothing more than some of the HITS programming from Comcast, on I believe AMC 15, at 105W. Comcast switched all that to DCII megapipe, I believe and 4DTV couldn’t handle that data stream. It’s dead as a door nail now. I’m not sure if it can even get any fixed key channels anymore.

We all have various levels of expertise from novice to advanced so no questions are dumb. As others have said, no 4DTV anymore but if you are interested there are still lots of in the clear channels available on c band. Obviously you need a satellite dish. Really recommend nothing smaller than 8 feet as you will likely be disappointed but 10 feet (or bigger) is desired. Best option is to find an older one locally that is not being used. Many people will let you have it for free just for removing it. If you must buy one Tek2000 is an option - 8ft, 10ft, 12ft. As far as an lnbf I would recommend a C1-PLL (one output) or C2-PLL (two outputs, can be used with multi-switch to supply signal to multiple receivers). You will need a receiver. Either the Edison MIO 4K from Titanium or the Amiko HD 265 from KE4EST are current receivers that are popular with members here. If you want to view more than one satellite you will also need a dish mover. You can get by with a VBox mover (if you can find one) but the quality has been iffy lately. The Titanium ASC1 is a high quality unit that is built to last. It is not cheap but as they say you get what you pay for. Both Titanium and KE4EST are members here who will provide you will great USA based support for any products you purchase from then. Also, be sure to use high quality coax and compression connectors.
