Help with new Satellite Receiver

Hello Guys
Thanks for the tips, all that helps.

but what about when I set values in the receiver for the Galaxy 97, every time I get out of that page, it doesn't save the values, it doesn't retain them.
why is that?
how do you save them?
I don't see any where a button that says "SAVE"

??

See my post above I explained that. That screen you were in is just a place to put in your location. Then it will give you the AZ. and EL. for your location. Write those down and go out and physical move the dish using those numbers as AS STARTING POINT.
Aiming a dish is not the same as aiming a TV antenna. If you are close to TV transmitters, you just aim your antenna in the general direction and it usually just works. You are trying to pinpoint a satellite that is over 22,000 miles away. It MUST be spot on. I will assume you have no satellite aiming meter.
So....What you need to do is take a small TV and your receiver out to the dish. Make sure you set the skew to match your location by PHYSICALLY rotating the LNBF in its holder. Then set your Elevation according to the numbers given to you for your location. Next point your dish LEFT AND RIGHT by rotating the WHOLE dish on the pole til it is pointing in the general direction by the Azimuth number you have.

Now....Hook up your receiver and TV, go in the menu and select 97W Ku. Double check that your LO is set to 10750. Then select or input transponder 12152 H 20000.
That is...
Transponder frequency should be set to 12152. Polarity set to Horizontal. Symbol Rate set to 20000. No switch or motor needs to be set and make sure LNBF voltage is turned on.

Now you should see 0 on quality meter and show a small amount of signal, then just means the receiver sees a LNBF, you would get same if pointed at the ground.
Now slowly rotate your dish first left and then right from your starting point. Very slowly here no rushing it. If you start to get a reading on quality GREAT adjust left and right for the highest signal. If not..... Move your elevation up a degree and repeat above. After several degrees of moving your elevation up and still not signal, and you are sure you are pointed in the proper general direction. Go back to your elevation starting point and start dropping the elevation a degree, move left and right, etc.

It takes time and patience. :) Once you start getting a signal though, then you can peak it by moving left and right until the best signal is found and adjust elevation for best signal. Then rotate LNBF for yet the best signal.

Finally, at this point you can perform a blind scan and you should start to see the channels popping in. :)

Hello Guys
Good morning

one more stupid question

I went to dishpointer.com
and for my location I got this result

1596984523411.png

The question I have is
under my dish setup note
it shows 2 Azimuth values, which one should I use and why?
I don't understand that.
those 2 values confused me

and LNB Skew value they show there of ( -28.9 ), what is this for?

Thanks in advance

If you are using a good compass use the Mag listing. The north poll and true magnetic north poll are not in the same place. In fact the magnetic north poll moves!

The LNB needs to be (twisted) to line up with the satellite arc depending on you location. Looks like you are well west of 97W so you will be pointing the dish east of due south and looking at the dish turn the LNB clockwise. (think I have that right)

What has worked good for me is to zoom way in when using Dishpointer and move (drag) the pointer to the location your dish is then note any close by items or landmarks you can see and aim there.

Thank you

now, if you notice the Picture below from my receiver it shows Orientation of 217.44

1596987719736.png

when my True north starts at 0-Deg and my True South is at 180 Deg
dishpointer.com and you are saying to use the Magnetic value of 129.4
that value will be setup between the range from Zero Deg Clockwise pass 120 and before 180

Why this receiver says 217.44?
its very confusing when different sources use different terms and different numbers
however, the Elevation all sources always says very close 39.5

Thanks again

Ok, you are correct. Post 38 says that. Thank you

now, as post #38 says that if my number is a minus then use :
360 - the number that would be your Azimuth value, ok

Thank you
I'll check it out

Have a wonderful day.

Hello Guys

I'm experimenting things around and I found more confusion

if I use the post #38 statement where 360 - 121.88 = 238.12
that would put me close towards my true North

I downloaded a dishpoint app in my cell phone where you just pick a satellite and it will give you those points and what to do to aim the right point.

however this app says to set it up close towards my true south, see picture below

1596999304779.png

notice on the top of the app that my Longitude and Latitude are correct, do....!!?

why the app is pointing that Galaxy 19 in my location is towards the true south?

Please, can you explain this, who is correct?
that is a 180 opposite from each other of 238.12 Deg versus the app.

Sorry but I'm confused with these 2.

by the way?
my compass shows the same as the Dishpointer app as N and S

Sir. You will find if you aim where the app says to you will be very close. You may have to raise the dish or lower it a little bit at a time and scan left and right until you acquire a signal. Believe the app and your compass. Then learn after you get signal.

Edit:
This is what it says for my location and I just went out and looked. The dish points right where it says.

Thank you
I'll do that.
I'd just to like to understand doing the match and the numbers make sense to compare the dish app that points towards that direction and the numbers match that direction.

You know!

Freddy Vences, you are way overthinking this. :)
Forget about the setup guide in the receiver. As I said before that is just for aiding in setting up your dish. It appears it is confusing so forget about it. Go with what dishpointer has said. Have fun!

Go back up to post #42 above and actually read it. Follow it, and you will have things going. :)

Thank you
I'll do that.

This has me confused too. Perhaps latitude?
The 360 - X thing. If satellites are referenced with 0 longitude and the math says in Greenwich, England has a satellite pointing 180 degrees south, you point the dish 180 degrees. 360-180=180. But in New York to get the same satellite you cannot aim at that satellite using the same math for ex: Greenwich 13, 0 degrees.....which will be 180 degrees to point over the equator or Clarke belt.
You have to aim east offset by your longitude to get the true reading. And is you live in Athens, west it is.
Maybe later on we take our actual longitude and do the math again.

if I use the post #38 statement where 360 - 121.88 = 238.12
that would put me close towards my true North
I cannot follow your reasoning here?

why the app is pointing that Galaxy 19 in my location is towards the true south?
I don't see that it does...?????

Sorry but I'm confused with these 2.
Yeah.....
Latitude, Longitude and Azimuth (true or magnetic) are quite different things. Might it be that you don't understand what is what?

Hello Guys

I'm back with a New 36" Dish and a motor STAB HH-90
from HyperMegaSat

I have a question on the receiver I purchased,
Amiko Mini HD265 FTA Receiver

how do I save my settings when I enter my Latitude and Longitude values?
it doesn't save them.
every time I enter values and get out of that page, when I come back to change a value, everything is gone, all boxes are zero again

how do you save the values to they stay there?

how do I save my settings when I enter my Latitude and Longitude values?
it doesn't save them.
Sounds like you are in the wrong place. While setting up a particular satellite, go down and arrow over until it says USALS, one it says USALS, click OK on the remote. This will be the menu you use to enter your Lat and Long for USALS. :)

Hello Guys

Good morning!

It looks like I'm just about to turn the switch "on"
my whole assembly is ready to go.

Again, I have:
a 36" Dish and a motor STAB HH-90
from HyperMegaSat
with
Amiko Mini HD265 FTA Receiver
With the Maverick LNB

I set up my motor with my Latitude angle of 37 Deg and the Dish bracket to 39 Deg

my location is:
1598634883529.png

GeoSatfinder says that my target satellite should be 97W, Galaxy 19

MY QUESTION IS................ ??
Since I have a motor, my whole assembly should pointing to my true south from my compass? which is at 180 Deg.?
well? minus my magnetic deviation.
and Set up Latitude and Longitude in my receiver under USUALS?

Then when I select in my receiver the Galaxy 19, 97W,
my motor will move to that Satellite? where it supposed to be, right? ( of course, then the adjustment will come).

At this point the whole assembly is supposed to be pointing at the Galaxy 19, 97W satellite.
then, this is where I will make the adjustments ...., Left and Right, to get best Quality signal
then repeat that to Up and Down for the Elevation to get the best Quality signal

is that right??
once, the best Quality signal has been completed,
then, scan channels, right?

Please, can you confirm to me that once my whole assembly is pointing to my true south
the motor will move when I select Galaxy 19, right?
then I will make the adjustments. right?

Again,
Thanks so much for all your help so far
It's been great chatting with all you guys here

Have a wonderful day
Freddy V.

Hi Freddy!

Yes, if the dish is on a plumb pole and pointed correctly at true south and the dish & motor elevation are set correct and latitude/longitude correctly entered in receiver and USALS is enabled then when you select a satellite for scanning the dish should motor over to it.

Hopefully at that point you will have a signal. If not do the fine adjustment procedure to acquire and peak your signal. Remember TINY adjustments - a fraction of an inch will mean good vs no signal. When you do get a signal do a blind scan. Even if it is not the correct sat it will help you find out what adjustments you need to make to get on the arc.

Once you think you have it on the arc make sure you test a sat on both ends of your viewable arc to make sure. Taking your time to get things right is all important. Good luck! Let us know how things go! :)
