Joey pixelation

Okay, is this Joey pixelization being described here typically the lower half of the screen pixelizing into pink or green macroblocking periodically (like a 3 or 4 times per hour for a few seconds per episode)? I have seen this behavior on our Joey 3 in the master bedroom lately. Strange thing is I have only seen it on On-Demand content, not on live TV or DVR content.

Not sure - it might start as a very brief glitch like that but when I see it, it's basically unwatchable - you might see half the frame with a recognizable image, the other half smears, the audio comes in only occasionally, everything out of sync, if you were to translate it to FPS it's like .25 FPS with almost total audio loss, if that makes sense.

That does not sound like what I have happening on the Joey 3. Mine will pixellate and macro block basically the bottom half of the screen with pink/green for 2-3 seconds, happens probably 3-4 times during a typical hour long show. The audio continues normally during this time, and the part of the picture that is not affected continues as normal. I do not have an OTA adapter on my Hopper 3 either and have so far only seen this behavior on On-Demand content.

The problem started with mine this evening. Reset of the hopper3, fixed it for 15 min, then started again. Never had this till today. I'll check my adapter also.

Exact same thing happened to me on my H3. I rebooted the J3 to see if that was it. Rebooted the H3 and it played perfectly again for about 5 minutes and then bang! Horrendous pixelization and stuttering playback. I had to reboot the H3 a second time before the situation improved.

More happened, couldn't watch a recording done earlier today , not from pixelation, just very jerky. I was recording on a OTA channel, & it stopped, lost all OTA. The adapter wasn't hot, just warm. Tomorrow I'll try to extend the adapter to see if that helps.

I extended the USB cable to a more open space, but I don't think that was a problem. I got back 2 of the 3 network stations. I first bought the white adapter last Feb., & had to replace it last month. I'm no expert on any of this, but I'm thinking the adapters is subpar. Anyone know if the white adapter has the same components as the more expensive ones?

Scuttlebutt from someone who supposedly opened up both types says they are identical inside, same board and components.

When I get heavy pixellation on a sat channel, I just tune to a strong OTA station than back to the sat channel and it almost always clears it up.

Well I've had it with the OTA adapter, lost what network channels I had left, & I removed the piece of crap. I have an old Magnavox digital recorder, but it hard use. I need to find something else.

I'm almost there myself. I can't believe we are still dealing with this, but I don't dare call Dish and waste my time with the general troubleshooting runaround, when we all know this is almost certainly a software issue.

Complain all we want no response from Dish. The $12.00 a month for locals is a lot of revenue for Dish.
You know the Dishnetwork engineers probably monitor this forum.

Your wjoey connects to a separate AP than your internet wifi, the wjoey AP is connected to the hopper via ethernet, should very close to the hopper.

How long has the wjoey been installed? How far is it from the AP? Have you recently relocated it(wjoey or AP) in the room, or to a different room? Sounds like it is 1 of 2 things.

Distance issue, or beginning signs of hardware failure.

You can run this test with the hopper remote and see if it is a distance issue.

On hopper remote, hold SAT button until all source lights blink. Release SAT button, then hold input button until the remote begins to beep. Walk to wjoey location. If beeping slows to 1 per second, wjoey is too far away. To stop beeping, press and release SAT button again.

The silence from Dish Support on this issue in this thread and other threads here related to this issue is deafening. It's clear they don't want to admit the culprit is a software bug, especially if there's no ETA on getting the fix.

Remember when we used to get release notes on software updates, usually pirated from someone on the inside? Then, towards the end the last few we did get essentially were a single entry:

"Misc. fixes"
