The CW version is from Washington DC & San Diego so they are already getting them via OTA. In markets where there is no CW they get CW E or W depending on time zone. When I had Mankato locals I got DC CW. They're just mapped to channel 14 in most cases

PBS is the National feed and is only available to markets that do not have a PBS in it. I assume they get it for free ;)

In a time of massive unemployment and suffering, a price increase like this is an outrage. Directv made millions of dollars last year. I think it was record profits. And their top executives make millions. In view of the sad state of the economy, why couldn't they have taken a pass on price increases this year? They would still make millions. To me they are a selfish big corporate entity trying to squeeze every last drop of blood out of consumers.

i dont get my local cw but direct gives me a cw from reno not san diego. why wouldnt they give me the national west coast feed?

I must be wrong on the west coast one. I thought both Dish and Direct used San Diego as west coast CW. You noted otherwise that they use Reno instead.

edit: checked D* site and in most cases it is San Diego....maybe because the next county to the east of you gets Reno locals you get the CW as a fill in?

Unfortunately big business can care less about our financial problems. They are in it to keep increasing the profit no matter what. They are in their own little world and will not give up there lavish lifestyles. Why many in America suffer they go on like nothing is happening. Is it right NO can we stop it kinda doubt it. It's a sad world we live in :(

Maybe the fact that inflation is out of control has a little something to do with it. Maybe you hadn't noticed?

As a business owner I decided not to raise my prices this year for my service business and I am feeling the pinch. It is almost to the point where I HAVE to raise my prices. D* is probably in the same position. As a father who has to pay a babysitter, paying $40 for a half of tank of gas, the line where it becomes not worth working grows closer and closer. D* needs to make a profit. They are a business.

Additionally, whether a customer pays $100 or $120 for D*, that should be one of the first things an unemployed worker should give up. For the rest of us, we may have to drop a movie channel or two.

Well, let's see.. the cost of almost EVERYTHING has gone up in the last 3-5 years and the government has spent "stimulus" money like a drunken sailor. The basic staples of life.. groceries, gas for the car, electricity just to name a few basics. They have all gone WAY up in the last few years. I don't know about you but I certainly don't have the "buying power" I had just a few years ago. I am making more each year but certainly not at the pace of inflation.

Biggest Deflation since the 1930s

In the Great Depression II wages are down if you can find them, yet utilities, insurance and government are fighting deflation. !

these are the times of the Biggest Deflation since the 1930s.
from property/land which is what we have always based much value. to even food
would also like to define what i refered to as utilities above: anything to do with energy.

wish i was making what i was 5 years ago and so would many others lol

Yep I do too.

I've been just as busy this past year as many other years, and this has been by far the WORST profit year since my First 2 years in Business 10 years ago.
The money must be going somewhere.

Gas has been a huge expense.
property and School taxes
Heath Care cost
Insurance cost
All have gone up,

But if I increase my labor price, forget it that will be less work for me then.
So when do the Small Business owners get their pay increase?

If I have another profit year like this year again, I'm cutting my business in half.
Sorry for the people who depend on me to make money, But if our Goverment and Utilities comapnys want to keep making record profit, and step all over the working american then I guess I can't help out anymore either.

Hate to say it but , D* and Dish Network could have went a few years both without a price increase.
I sure hell had too!!!

I had to raise my prices just to stay a float. I can't even collect from dead beats and business is way down. When I get a job I have to give away the store so to say to get it. While I loose out the fat cats get fatter. I'm really getting sick of it.

Inflation is not hurting Directv. Look at this link.

DIRECTV Fourth Quarter Results Complete Another Record Setting Year for the Company

As you can see , they are making record profits. And yes, the unemployed can cancel their cable or satellite altogether, but with more and more types of programming migrating away from broadcast TV to cable, it's getting to the point that if you cancel your cable or satellite you will have very slim pickings.

And by the way, inflation has been very moderate lately.

Just because a company makes more money than last year doesn't mean they are not being effected by inflation, just think what the situation COULD look like if the economy was stable or on an upswing ....

You know that article is almost a year old and is talking about 2009's results. D* hasn't posted results for this year yet. However, the results will be positive.

i feel so bad for big companies billion dollar profits year in and year out aint enough. If they dont meet or beat wallstreet estimates their stock takes a nose dive so sad almost makes me cry NOT!!! In less than 10 years time cable, sat and internet will be priced out of the limit for middle class then we will watch prices for everything fall back down to a more reasonable price. A house that cost 50k to build 10 years ago shouldnt cost 250k today ah greed will destroy our country well before anything else does.

I don't see that happening.

Prices wont be coming down , channel selection will just decrease.

I'm wondering if those of us signed up through "Verizon" will have prices raised through them on top of the dtv increase?

I would think so unless you are in a price lock promotion period, in which you would have the increase at the end of the promo.
