Could also be a bad BBC. You can unhook it from input 2 and check signal again for the 101. Be sure to reconnect it though.

When the message comes up, it will have a 1 or a 2 at the end of the message. Is it always the same number? Does the number change when you swap the cables?

When you get the searching for sat signal message, is it searching on the same sat input or both 1 and 2? Assuming you have a WB6x8 multi-switch, if it is always the same input I doubt the LNB is bad.

It could also be a bad or missing BBC (the little boxes connected to sat in), or there could be a diplexer on the suspect line.

Yes, you can connect the HD receiver via composite/S-video as long as you keep the resolution set at 480i. Convincing the installer you are competent enough to swap the TVs without causing him to get a repeat service call "may" be another issue. DirecTV is getting back-charge happy forcing...

For the cable, that is directv standard. I don't know what the home improvement stores carry. You should only need 4 cables to the dish....unless they change it, then you will be prepared.

#1 Does not need to be quad cable. Directv wants a min of 60% braid with a solid copper center conductor. #2 Slimline has 4 outputs. You may want to consider using a large enough conduit to fit an extra cable or two and feed a pull string through.

I don't think the HR20 series supports the SWM technology. HR21's do though.

I've seen transmitters that send audio and video, but I don't know about the remote part. They only send the signal it gets from the sat receiver to the tv. They will not send the satellite signal from the LNB/multi-switch to the sat receiver. If remote control functionality is not supported...
