American Idol - Who is your favorite?

Sorry to see Ayla Brown go, she had promise. Kellie Pickler is my next favorite.

    942 and RGB

The 921 has RGB using the DVI-I connector. You'd need a DVI to VGA converter or DVI-I to RGB doggle. But the 942 just has digital output thru HDMI or DVI-D. Maybe there's a box that converts component to RGB?

Service Menu for Dish Network HD-3400 Monitor

A problem I always have is when turning the monitor on using the remote it always comes up in TV mode (chans 2-69) instead of DVI mode. This does happen if I turn it on via push button only remote. Second I can seem to select video modes (DVI, Comp1, Comp2, Front, Vid1 Vid2) using the remote...

EXCLUSIVE: Dish Vip 622 & Vip 222 Specs

Correct mpeg4 recordings should save on disk space compared to mpeg2. What's saved to the hard drive is the same bit stream that is later un-encrypted and uncompressed.

EXCLUSIVE: Dish Vip 622 & Vip 222 Specs

I don't think they have video capture with component (Y,Pr,Pb) or DVI/HDMI inputs just composite or s-video. However it could be done via firewire or USB except for the fact that the digital data is encrypted.

921 DVR picture freezes while watching HD feeds

In the past couple of weeks I've had two situations where the picture froze. One was when playing back the pause buffer from an OTA channel and the other was a recording from HDNet. I assumed it to be station related because they both displayed a particular place in time where the halt action...

EXCLUSIVE: Dish Vip 622 & Vip 222 Specs

Isn't there already a model 322? If so it's only going to confuse people with a vip322 vs 322? Does the vip322 have a ATSC/NTSC tuner that allows OTA to be mapped in the EPG or is it just pass thru as it is now with the 322? Is this intended for HD channels from dish (ie. QPSK and 8PSK)

    Voom Price?

If you live in the northeast US (east of Cleveland north of Wash DC) then you need a second dish at 61.5. Else you could replace you existing dish500 with a dish1000 or add a second dish to either 61.5 or 129. Find out which is cheaper and/or easier. You'll also need a switch added if you go...

Does Dish 1000 work in S Florida?

I think you have a shot for either satellite. BobaBird has more insight on this subject.

Does Dish 1000 work in S Florida?

There's always 61.5 using a second dish and also 129. The problems some where stating was using a dish1000 in certain regions produced weak signal level because of the skew angles where with a single second dish wouldn't have that problem.

OK here is what I know...

It's believed that Dish is choosing 15 of the possible 21 Voom channels in order to deliver them at full HD resolution (1920x1080i). Their orginal plan was 21 Voom using HD Lite (1280x1080i).

EXCLUSIVE: Dish Vip 622 & Vip 222 Specs

My guess is more than a 942 (ie. greater than $700)

OK here is what I know...

Dish said NO to YES. They wanted more money from dish then from the cable companies.

OK here is what I know...

I believe there may be more 921 owners than 942 or 6000 being that 942 just came out in April of this year and 6000s were at a time when HD was rare and expensive. If that's the case then dish can't ignore 921 with a SOL policy because what really counts is the programming customers subscribe to.

OK here is what I know...

I don't think the tuner boards have the mpeg chip on them. I believe they send the entire encrypted and compressed data stream "as is" to the PCI bus where it's then cached to the hard drive and then processed by the main board for decryption and uncompression before being sent to the scan...

OK here is what I know...

What about 921 owners? Will there be a 921+ or can they upgrade to 942+ if needed? Same question for the 6000's.

    Charlie Chat Recap and Discussion

The 942 doesn't have a mpeg4 decoder chip also they would be making the 962 if it wasn't necessary. So much for that Tech's reliability.

Then perhaps it was QPSK. I remember that the model 5000 (with HD modulator option) would convert satellite HD to 8VSB. I guess I assumed it was 8VSB to begin with.

    Charlie Chat Recap and Discussion

Some channels were originally 8VSB before changing their modulation but DiscoveryHD was the first channel to start out as 8PSK.

    Charlie Chat Recap and Discussion

I've been watching these Charlie Chats for years now and frequently things are said that are later discovered to be incorrect. Often he believes he's saying something truthfully but later that statement never becomes true. Or it could be a situation that they later change their minds about.

    Charlie Chat Recap and Discussion

I agree with what you're saying just hope that dish makes a retraction about any misunderstandings that were made. They need to make public the receiver exchange policy or risk customers fleeing to D*. Also no one with a 921 or 942 will settle for a 411/211 and loose dual tuner plus DVR...

    Charlie Chat Recap and Discussion

One more thing to add to Charlie's promises back in spring 05: The mpeg4 receiver exchange will be as painless as possible. Funny, no mention of that last night even though new channels will be mpeg4

    Charlie Chat Recap and Discussion

If the new 5 Voom and ESPN2 are going to be mpeg4 as Charlie hinted then why was there no mention about the means of viewing it. Example 211 and 962 swap program. How does he expect people to view the channels they're subscribed to.

Freezing on HDNet Movies? Anyone else?

Made a recording of Hogan's Heros on 9422 (I think it was Saturday 8-9 AM if wrong then it was Friday at that same time) that cause my 921 to freeze during playback. It was so bad that my unit locked up and the disk actuator was having seeking problems. I had to delete the program. Anyone...

    16:9

Yes, if they were to have SD wide as the norm the most people with 4:3 sets would see the image vertically stretched. They could always add a letterbox feature (that shrinks the image vertically for standard SD boxes) but I doubt that existing boxes would be able to do that through software...
